Self-described “Team Pfizer” member Joy Reid says she still wears two masks while going for a run in the park, but her hand-picked MSNBC guest seemed to think otherwise.
As part of a discussion about the new U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for those gathering outdoors who have already received two doses of a coronavirus vaccine, the pro-vaccine MSNBC host of “The ReidOut” gave a brief show-and-tell about double face-coverings.
“I am among the fully-vaccinated, joined Team Pfizer, and I did go jogging today in the park. And…this was the mask I wore, with a doctor’s mask under it.
“And most of the people that I saw that were in the park – the park was packed – I’d say like 95% of the people still had masks on. There are people who are getting really upset about that. I won’t name them,” Reid said.
“Should people be freaking out that some people like myself who are vaccinated are still wearing masks outdoors? Should we do that?,” she asked her guest, critical-care pulmonologist Dr. Vin Gupta, an NBC medical analyst, in what appeared to be an attempt by Reid to set up a strawman premise.
Gupta responded “definitely not,” and that individuals, based on personal preference. might continue to wear masks for months or even years even after the pandemic subsides, adding that “Nobody should judge anybody else’s personal health decision.”
But the doctor seemingly went on to politely and indirectly disagree with Reid’s underlying hypothesis.
“Having said that, I will say that the CDC was well timed to put this out there, because there is no data — frankly, there’s not been data for many months now that outdoor transmission is a thing, especially with warm humid air.
“Joy, we know that respiratory viruses don’t like warm, humid air; they like cold, dry air. You have warmer weather; you have the fact that more people who are vaccinated, the wind currents– there’s no way you’ll really get exposed unless maybe you’re in a rave or an outdoor concert where you’re really close to people who are not masking. Outside of that, this is a wise policy,” Gupta explained.
MNSNBC’s resident liberal alarmist if not conspiracy theorist then noted that “the reason I still do it is that people who are jogging are all breathing, and it’s like you’re in their backdraft…if I’m going to run behind a lot of people, I do it,” she said.

Aside from learning more about the unidentified folks who are allegedly “freaking out,” it would be interesting to know the location of a park where only five percent of those on site were maskless.
Among its list of updated guidelines, the CDC announced that “Fully vaccinated people can participate in outdoor activities and recreation without a mask, except in certain crowded settings and venues.” Even for those in the double-vaccinated category, the CDC still recommends mask wearing in “indoor public settings.”
Fox News Channel host Tucker Carlson has separately blasted Joy Reid who has claimed that the “vaccine-resistant Trump crowd is becoming a problem for the rest of us,” and characterized vaccine hesitancy as “reckless endangerment.”
