Black Lives Matter activists in Ohio are threatening to kill police officers in the wake of what many observers believe was a justifiable shooting involving a Columbus officer and a knife-wielding 16-year-old black girl earlier this week.
In a video posted to Twitter, a black man using a public address system is seen with a small group, some of whom are holding pre-printed “Black Lives Matter” signs, hollering at no one in particular when issuing the threat.

“We’re not gonna sit here and just sit around while you shoot and kill us and go back to the suburbs,” the unidentified man says. “We’re sick … maybe it needs to be an eye for an eye,” he continued, with some in the crowd yelling in agreement.
“They shoot us, we shoot them!” he went on. “You shoot us, we shoot you!”
On Tuesday, Columbus officers were called to respond to a person who was threatening others with a knife. According to audio of the 911 call released by the department, a female is heard telling a dispatcher to send police “now” because some girls were “trying to stab us.”
Video released by the department and corroborated by additional security cam video from a neighbor’s home across the street show that Officer Nicholas Reardon arrived to find a highly volatile situation and had mere seconds to assess it. When he saw the teen, Ma’Khia Bryant, armed with a knife and lunging at another young girl, he reacted and fired four shots a split second before she struck.
Donavon Brinson, the neighbor who supplied the additional security cam footage, said it was clear to him the shooting was justified in order to save the life of the other girl.
“He only had seconds to respond from my point of view,” Brinson told local media. “Watching this, unfortunately, the whole scenario put [the officer] in a bad spot.”

Added Ira Graham III, another neighbor: “I believe in truth and facts. Video doesn’t lie. She was in full attack mode.”
But Democrats, left-wing pundits, and BLM activists have instead seized on the shooting, which came moments before jurors returned guilty verdicts against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin in the death of George Floyd, as just another instance of a white officer unjustifiably shooting a black person.
In an interview with The Daily Caller, Black Liberation Movement Central Ohio founder Kiara Yakita said that the shooting was illegitimate because he immediately used deadly force.
“When I saw the bodycam, I noticed the difference in how they police. When it comes to black people, they do not like to deescalate,” Yakita said. “The reaction seems to be to fear black people who are in conflict and to just try to violently stop them.
“There’s not many questions asked, there is hardly any time spent trying to identify who’s the victim, who’s the aggressor, who’s the person who even called us here for help in the first place,” she noted further.
Earlier this week, BLM co-founder Bree Newsome said the situation was “frightening” and unacceptable that Reardon chose to use deadly force to stop a potentially deadly act.
“Teenagers have been having fights including fights involving knives for eons. We do not need police to address these situations by showing up to the scene & using a weapon against one of the teenagers. Y’all need help. I mean that sincerely,” she tweeted.
Rutgers University associate professor Brittney Cooper, who teaches “gender” and “Africana studies,” told MSNBC’s Joy Reid on Thursday that people who are supporting Reardon’s quick actions have “adultified” Bryant.
“They have adultified her. We turn black girls into grown women before they are even able to vote,” she added. “I have watched folks across the political spectrum really defend this and say…and empathize with the officer, say that he didn’t have any other set of choices,” she said.
Hours before Bryant was shot and killed, a 13-year-old girl, Nyaira Givens, was stabbed to death by another teen girl in a suburb of Cincinnati.
