Caitlyn Jenner files to run for governor, done with one-party rule: This is not Gavin Newsom’s California

Reality television star Caitlyn Jenner announced Friday she is running for governor of California as a Republican challenger to Democratic Gov Gavin Newsom.

In a statement posted to social media, Jenner said her objective is “to get California moving in the right direction” after years of “one-party rule.”

“California has been my home for nearly 50 years,” Jenner, who transitioned from a biological male known as Bruce Jenner, an Olympic Decathalon Gold Medal winner, said in a statement. “I came here because I knew that anyone, regardless of their background or station in life, could turn their dreams into reality.

“But for the past decade,” the statement continued, “we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interests over people.

“Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision,” Jenner continued. “As Californians, we face a now-or-never opportunity to fundamentally fix our state before it’s too late.”

Jenner emphasized the disastrous effects of draconian lockdowns under ‘Gavin Newsom’s California’ and vowed to make a more balanced, bipartisan change.

The Olympic champ’s campaign team plans to file the appropriate paperwork with the California Secretary of State’s office and start raising funds for Newsom’s recall.

The state has a unique system of recall in that it establishes a two-step process for voters after an election is scheduled, which is expected for later this year. First, voters will decide whether they even want to recall Newsom. But next, regardless of how they vote, they will then be asked to select from a roster of candidates who have met the qualifications to run for the office, The Hill reports.

“The ballot is likely to be one of the most crowded in American history,” The Hill added. “Eighteen years ago, 135 candidates qualified to run in the recall of Gov. Gray Davis (D), including media magnate Arianna Huffington, actor Gary Coleman, a porn star, porn magnate Larry Flynt — and the eventual winner, Arnold Schwarzenegger.”

Reaction to Jenner’s announcement online was swift — and decidedly mixed.

“Californians want and deserve better from their governor,” Jenner’s statement continued. “For too long, career politicians have over-promised and under-delivered. We need a leader with a vision and resolve to see it through.”

She went on to criticize the state’s COVID-19 lockdowns for their negative impact on businesses and schoolchildren, as well as the state’s elevated tax burden.

“This isn’t the California we know,” she added.
