Documents show Maxine Waters asked for police protection before advocating unrest in Minnesota

California Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters requested a police escort in and out of Minnesota over the weekend where she encouraged violent activists waiting for the verdict in former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin’s trial not to accept anything less than a murder conviction, according to documents obtained by Townhall.

According to the outlet, Waters — who has a history of calling for violence to achieve political objectives — flew out of Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C., to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on Saturday, just days before the prosecution rested in Chauvin’s trial and both sides gave closing arguments to the jury.

Chauvin has been charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter of George Floyd during an arrest attempt in late May of last year. His death sparked nationwide protests that endured for months after being hijacked, according to some, by Black Lives Matter and Antifa activists. The protests caused more than a billion dollars in damages, left some people dead, injured hundreds of police officers, and destroyed countless businesses.

The night Waters arrived in Minneapolis, she took to the streets to demand a guilty verdict for Chauvin “or else.”

“I know this, we’ve got to stay in the streets,” Waters said to a group of activists, according to video clips posted online. “We are looking for a guilty verdict.”

“If nothing does not happen then we have to not only stay in the streets but we have to fight for justice,” she added. “I am very hopeful and I hope that we are going to get a verdict that is guilty, guilty, guilty and if we don’t, we cannot go away.”

Republicans and some Democrats were outraged by Waters’ comments, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who vowed Sunday to try and at least have Waters censured for her comments.

“This weekend in Minnesota, Maxine Waters broke the law by violating curfew, and then incited violence,” McCarthy said in a statement. “Increased unrest has already led to violence against law enforcement and her comments intentionally poured fuel on the fire.”

“We’ve heard this type of violent rhetoric from Waters before, and the United States Congress must clearly and without reservation reprimand this behavior before more people get hurt,” he continued. “But Speaker Pelosi is ignoring Waters’ behavior. That’s why I am introducing a resolution to censure Rep. Waters for these dangerous comments, and I hope that all my colleagues – both Republican and Democrat – will stand up for peace on America’s streets.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), meanwhile, said Sunday she will be introducing a resolution to have Waters expelled from the chamber, though with Democrats in control and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi telling reporters she sees nothing wrong with her California colleague’s remarks, it isn’t likely to succeed.

Following Waters’ comments, two Minnesota Army National Guard troops were slightly wounded in a drive-by shooting that only added to the tensions in the once-serene city.

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson addressed Waters’ controversial comments in his opening monologue Monday, recounting her decades-long history of “inciting violence” to advance her own personal political objectives.

He speculated that Waters was well aware of the volatile situation she was entering when she went to Minneapolis, which is why she requested police protection.

“It’s almost hard to process facts like these — calling for violence even as you demand that taxpayers protect you from the violence you’re calling for,” he said. “Whipping a dangerous mob into a frenzy at the very same moment you are trying to eliminate the police and then disarm the population through gun control.”

“What is that? Well, it’s totalitarian and we should be honest about it,” Carlson continued. “Too often, Republicans waste time highlighting the hypocrisy of the left. But…people like Maxine Waters don’t care if you point out that they’re hypocrites. They don’t care if you catch them lying. You’re wasting your breath when you point this out.”

The only way to respond to such people, Carlson said, is to simply be honest “about who they are.”

“Maxine Waters is someone who supports mob violence. She always has supported it, we have known this,” said the host.
