Blaming white racism has become the new national sport

Op-ed views and opinions expressed are solely those of the author.

A social justice movement has come into bloom based on the erroneous notion that the number one problem in America is ingrained racism by whites against blacks. Under the false flags of “systemic racism” and “white supremacy,” the movement demands that all white people confess their racism and make amends in the form of wealth and power redistribution. Minority special interest groups are using “equity,” “diversity,” and “social justice” as a power grab. Supporters of the social justice movement are not seeking justice, they are seeking control. Blacks who identify as “oppressed” want to trade places with their alleged oppressors.

Democratic politicians and their media allies are having a field day with stories about the consequences of alleged white racism. One of the local newspapers in my community called out racism as the cause of all the problems we face. “Racism,” the newspaper informed us, “creates disparate outcomes in housing, education, employment, public safety and criminal justice, and health.” The Achilles Heel of their argument is revealed by a statement that was slipped in at the end of the article: “The [county supervisors] blame only racism—and not any other social factors—for the disparities.”

To be truthful about the causes of social disruption in the US, we must point a finger not at alleged white racism but rather at the black community itself. The black experience has been characterized by massive crime, violence, chronic anger and hostility, self-victimization, breakdown of the family, anti-white racism, anti-Semitism, and unwillingness to accept personal responsibility.

Black author Shelby Steele has put his finger on the problem. “Past oppression cannot be conflated into present-day oppression,” says Steele. “It is likely that today’s racial disparities are due more to dysfunctions within the black community.” Blacks are not being held accountable for a continuing history of violence. Black men make up six percent of the US population. In 2015, according to Heather Mac Donald in The War on Cops, blacks were charged with 62 percent of all robberies, 57 percent of murders, and 45 percent of assaults in the 75 largest US counties. Blacks in New York City committed 75 percent of all shootings, 70 percent of robberies, and 66 percent of all violent crime. “Numerical disparities result from differences of offending,” said Larry Elder, “not because of racism.”

The ideology behind the “all whites are racists” movement is called Critical Race Theory, which argues that the US is inherently racist, that minorities and women are oppressed by whites and especially by white men, and that white people achieve their economic and political objectives at the expense of people of color. Fox’s Greg Gutfeld isn’t buying it. “Critical Race Theory,” says Gutfeld, “undermines the positive core beliefs of America by redefining the nation as an engine of oppression.” CRT has given rise to catastrophic social division that is busy destroying the legacy of Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement. The Left wants people to be judged based on the color of their skin, not by the quality of their character or the fruits of their labor.

According to CRT, if you are white you are automatically guilty of racism because of your skin color. CRT has been refuted by respected black figures such as Thomas Sowell, Shelby Steele, Bob Woodson, and Larry Elder. They are unanimous in their agreement that the oppression of blacks is a thing of the past. Rather than exhibiting systemic racism, white Americans have bent over backwards to make life better for blacks. “America is not a racist country,” agreed black political activist Candace Owens. “Anyone claiming otherwise has a vested interest in keeping us divided. The easiest way to maintain power over any group is to keep those within it at war with one another.”

At the forefront of the “all whites are racists” campaign is Black Lives Matter. BLM has glorified black violence and placed it on a pedestal. It’s not violence anymore, says BLM, it is peaceful protesting for social justice. BLM’s destructive influence is growing as the public is manipulated by social media to excuse looting, arson, and murder. It is perpetuated by race baiters such as Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Oprah Winfrey in order to encourage white guilt and to inflame the black love affair with victimization.

No one wants to be called “racist.” Because of this, many gullible whites are capitulating to the demand of Black Lives Matter thugs that whites should genuflect before black people. I thought this was a joke until someone showed me a video of a large crowd of whites on their knees in Bethesda, Maryland, as they were led through a mass confession of their racism. It reminded me of the Chinese Cultural Revolution where victims were forced to admit various crimes before a crowd of people who would verbally and physically abuse them.

Wall Street Journal editorial board member Jason Riley, who is black, has accused civil rights leaders of being more interested in “blaming the problems of blacks on white racism” than getting to the real causes. Blacks lag behind other groups in economic success, safe neighborhoods, and family cohesiveness. The question is, who or what is responsible? Heather Mac Donald contends that blacks must be held responsible for their own negative behaviors. The notion that blacks are victims of a racist society may have been true prior to the 1960s, she says, but this is a half century after the Civil Rights Movement.

Encouraging blacks not to take responsibility for their own lives is part of the Democratic Party’s plan to make blacks dependent on government handouts. The black family, claims the Heritage Foundation, was destroyed by “the progressive term ‘compassion’ during the War on Poverty, which began in 1964.” The number of African-American lives damaged or destroyed by Democratic Party welfare policies, says David Horowitz, “would exceed the wildest dreams of any klansman.” The legacy of the Left’s welfare system is the break-up of low-income black families, the explosion of out-of-wedlock births, systemic poverty, higher black crime statistics and rates of incarceration, and the substantial decrease of black households headed by someone who works.

The George Floyd incident has been an excuse for the destruction of our cities and the repudiation of American values in order to make restitution for outdated black grievances. A history of slavery, while abhorrent, does not give blacks the right to demand better treatment than anyone else.
