McConnell walks back warning CEOs to ‘stay out of politics’ after being mocked from both sides

In what is proving to be the residual effects of four years of Trump Derangement Syndrome, the greatest being that the nation’s media is now more dedicated to doing what it deems to be the morally right thing over journalistic integrity, the Republican Party has lost the war on “election integrity.”

With the corrupt media establishment carrying the Democratic Party’s water, the left has established as fact that any and all efforts to shore up the electoral process in the aftermath of the 2020 election is racially-driven “voter suppression.” Even corporate America, now woke after last year’s embrace of the Black Lives Matter movement, is on board with this narrative, which benefits directly from the success of mainstreaming the left’s toxic critical race theory.

So much so that they reportedly mocked Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on the matter in a reported conference call of “100 top corporate leaders.”

CBS News’ Ed O’Keefe reported Sunday on a conference call “between more than 100 top corporate leaders on Saturday focused on how to respond to proposed changes in state voting laws.”

The overriding issue in the 2020 election was a sea of unsolicited mail-in ballots — this being the result of Democrats exploiting the pandemic — with officials in critical swing states altering laws to accommodate millions of ballots. Republicans argued these changes were reserved for state legislatures.

Seeing that vast success of their efforts — “Sleepy” Joe Biden received over 81 million votes —  Democrats are looking to make these changes the norm and the GOP is out to shore up a process ripe for fraud, as seen in Georgia recently.

Keeping in mind a Yale professor helped organize the call, O’Keefe quoted a remark after naming the professor.

“‘There was humor and mockery’ about @LeaderMcConnell‘s calls for business leaders to ‘stay out of politics,’ a comment he later walked back,” O’Keefe wrote. “But participants said, ‘It wasn’t a primary area of discussion’ and that meeting was in the works before McConnell’s words.”

Early last week, McConnell warned of “serious consequences” for corporations who “use economic blackmail to spread disinformation and push bad ideas that citizens reject at the ballot box.”

“From election law to environmentalism to radical social agendas to the Second Amendment, parts of the private sector keep dabbling in behaving like a woke parallel government,” the Kentucky Republican said Monday. “Corporations will invite serious consequences if they become a vehicle for far-left mobs to hijack our country from outside the constitutional order.”

On Wednesday, though, McConnell seemed to back off on that stance somewhat.

“I didn’t say that very artfully,” he said, noting that corporations are entitled to be involved in politics. “My principal complaint is, they didn’t read the darn bill. … There are many states right now after the new Georgia law, that are much more restrictive than the new Georgia law.”

Of course, it doesn’t help that President Biden spouts outright lies about the Georgia bill and the media does little to correct him, with many joining in the misinformation campaign.

O’Keefe shared a list of some of the leaders “invited” on the call, though it is not clear that these individuals actually participated in the call.

While the media seized on the opportunity to promote the established narrative, they didn’t bother to note that these corporations were siding with one political party over another.

But then, when the GOP is billed as a party of racists and bigots, they’re only doing the “right thing.”

As seen below, CBS News describes GOP efforts to ensure voter integrity as a “wave of restrictive voter laws sweeping the country.”

This is a dishonest, one-sided narrative. And as troubling as these developments are, allegedly in the name of fairness, the right seems to have lost its voice.

Sen. Tom Cotton responded to say in a tweet: “We haven’t seen this level of corporate activism since Congress tried to stop slave labor in China.”
