Over a year into the coronavirus pandemic, it appears that Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s administration is still steeped in hypocrisy.
Whitmer, a Democrat who blew off her own lockdown orders last June to march with Black Lives Matter extremists, has been vocal in her concerns about out-of-state traveling, mask-wearing and social distancing.
Yet last week one of her top officials, Michigan COO chief operating officer Tricia Foster, reportedly posted photos to Instagram that showed her hanging out on a beach in Siesta Key, Florida with several other men and women, all of them unmasked.
“The photos, which have since been removed, were captured by Breitbart News and posted in a story Friday on its website. The story also shows screenshots of Foster’s comments about the trip,” The Detroit News reported Saturday.

Foster traveled to Siesta Key — apparently for spring break — despite Whitmer having said on April 2nd that “she was concerned about residents traveling on spring break, especially to Florida,” according to The Detroit News.
Foster likewise walked around without proper mask-wearing and social distancing despite the state’s official travel guidelines advising residents to “wear a mask over your nose and mouth when in public settings” and to “stay at least 6 feet/2 meters (about 2 arm lengths) from anyone who did not travel with you.”
“As always, every Michigander has a personal responsibility to do their part by wearing a mask, washing hands and maintaining social distancing to help us slow the spread of this virus,” Whitmer herself said during the April 2nd briefing.
It’s not clear whether Foster traveled to the region with all of the people she’d been photographed standing alongside unmasked.
Upon learning about Foster’s behavior, the governor predictability lashed out at the journalists who’d exposed her.
“This is a partisan attack from a garbage white nationalist website. Trish Foster is fully recovered from COVID and fully vaccinated,” her spokesperson, Bobby Leddy, told The Detroit News.
But in an update issued on April 2nd, the same day as Whitmer’s briefing, the CDC made it clear that “[f]or now, fully vaccinated people should continue to [t]ake precautions in public like wearing a well-fitted mask and physical distancing.”
Furthermore, Breitbart is not a “white nationalist” site …
Regardless, the hypocrisy from the Whitmer administration hasn’t been well-received.

Bet her husband gets his boat out in time this year.
— Lee Strohbehn (@LeeStrohbehn) April 11, 2021
The mentions of a “husband” were references to Whitmer’s husband, who last spring allegedly tried to use his status to jump in line ahead of other customers who were attempting to retrieve their boats for Memorial Day weekend.
Meanwhile, the governor is reportedly urging residents to engage in voluntary lockdowns because of skyrocketing coronavirus cases and hospitalizations.
“We all have to step up our game for the next two weeks to bring down rising cases, and that is why I am calling on high schools to voluntarily go remote for the next two weeks past spring break, calling on youth sports to voluntarily suspend games and practices for two weeks,” she said in a briefing last week, according to Fox News.
She added, “Support your local restaurants by eating outside or getting carryout instead of dining indoors. Opt for small outdoor gatherings with masks.”
Take note of the latter portion of her statement …
Again, the hypocrisy hasn’t been well-received.
