President Joe Biden is encouraging Major League Baseball to relocate the upcoming 2021 All-Star Game out of Atlanta, Georgia, because the state’s Republican administration passed a voting reform bill that he dislikes.
Last Thursday, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed into law a sweeping voting reform bill designed to enhance election security and integrity by instituting common-sense rules such as a requirement that voters display their ID to vote.
Prior to Kemp’s signing of the bill, Democrats and their media allies screeched nonstop about how the bill would reinstitute “Jim Crow” (known by Biden as “Jim Eagle“) and legalize “voter suppression.”
Yet with the bill now signed into law, the screeching continues but has since been joined by a slew of “woke” entities, including the MLB Players Association.
Shortly after Kemp signed the bill into law, MLBPA executive director Tony Clark issued a statement to the media falsely claiming that the new law would “make it particularly difficult for black voters to reach the polls” and vowing that he was open to having a “conversation” about relocating the July 13th All-Star-Game.

Responding to this statement, Biden said during an interview on ESPN’S “SportsCenter” this Wednesday that he’s down with this tentative plan.
“I think today’s professional athletes are acting incredibly responsibly. I would strongly support them doing that. People look to them. They’re leaders. Look what’s happened with the NBA, as well. Look what’s happened across the board. The very people who are victimized the most are the people who are the leaders in these various sports, and it’s just not right,” he said.

“This is ‘Jim Crow’ on steroids, what they’re doing in Georgia and 40 other states. What’s it all about? Imagine passing the law saying you cannot provide water or food for someone standing in line to vote. Can’t do that. Come on! Or you’re going to close a polling place at five o’clock when working people just get off. This is all about keeping working folks and ordinary folks that I grew up with from being able to vote,” Biden continued.
He added, “If they do decide to move the Major League Baseball All-Star game, it won’t be the first time in professional sports. They moved the 2017 NBA All-Star game out of Charlotte for political reasons as well.”
Much of what he said was a lie.
The bill signed by Kemp does not close polling places at 5:00 pm. According to a fact-check by The Washington Post, Election Day poll hours “were not changed.”
However, early voting hours were changed — for the better — with an option being added for counties to extend their own early voting times by as much as two hours.
“Under the new law, counties have the option to extend the voting hours so voters can start casting ballots as early as 7 a.m. and as late as 7 p.m.,” according to the Post.
Second, Biden’s claim that voters may not be provided food or water lacked context. The new law specifically states that voters may still collect water from self-service stations. What’s not allowed is for people to “solicit” voters via “gifts” such as food/water.
Just FYI: The ban on food and water at polling locations in Georgia only applies within 150ft feet of the poll location entrance just like with electioneering. Also allows water/food stations within that 150ft, just no non-voters.

And lastly, the bill is not “Jim Crow on steroids.”
Writing for The Wall Street Journal last week, GOP operative Karl Rove noted that many of the policies that have been established by the bill — including a voter ID requirement — already exist in Democrat states.
“If this is racist, then New Jersey, Virginia and California are suppression hotbeds. New Jersey requires a driver’s license number or the last four digits of a Social Security number for online voter registration, while Virginia requires both a photo ID card and your Social Security number. California—hardly a red stronghold—also requires ID to register. Where are the bitter denunciations of these state’s racist (Democratic) governors and legislatures?” he wrote.
Rove also drew attention to Iowa, where Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds recently signed her own voting reform bill into law, thus triggering the same “Jim Crow” rhetoric from leftists such as Vice President Kamala Harris and Democrat operative Stacey Abrams.
“Among other things, Democrats criticized the new Hawkeye State law for closing poll locations at 8 p.m. rather than 9 p.m., while keeping opening time at 7 a.m. Yet Democrats have been mysteriously quiet when it comes to rules enforcing the same opening and closing times set by the Democratic governments of California, Delaware, Massachusetts and Rhode Island; the Democratic governors of Michigan, Minnesota and Pennsylvania; the Democratic Legislature of Maryland and the Democratic mayor and City Council of Washington,” he correctly noted.
“The Iowa law also drew fire for reducing the number of early voting days to 20 from 29. If this is evidence of suppression, what should we call the District of Columbia, Delaware, Hawaii, Maryland, New York, Wisconsin and 15 other states, all with shorter in-person voting periods than Iowa? And what about Connecticut, Delaware and New Jersey, none of which have early in-person voting at all? Will Ms. Abrams and Ms. Harris condemn these blue state as centers of voter suppression?” Rove wondered.
They won’t, of course, because Democrats rarely — almost never, actually — apply the same standards to themselves that they impose on others.
