U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), an original member of “The Squad,” chastised political opponents who are using the term “surge” to describe the current crush of migrants and unaccompanied children along the Southwest border, claiming it is a “militaristic frame.”
“They wanna say, ‘But what about the surge?'” the self-avowed democratic socialist said during an Instagram Live session Tuesday night. “Well, first of all, just gut check, stop. Anyone who’s using the term ‘surge’ around you consciously is trying to invoke a militaristic frame.”
“And that’s a problem because this is not a surge, these are children and they are not insurgents and we are not being invaded, which by the way is a white supremacist idea-philosophy, the idea that if another is coming in the population that this is an invasion of who we are,” she added.
AOC breaks her silence on the border crisis:
She says the real issue is people using the word “surge”. She calls it “militaristic”.

Several social media users disagreed with the New Yorker, including Townhall senior writer Julio Rosas, who has spent several days reporting from the border.
“I’ve been using the term ‘surge’ because there’s a higher than usual amount of people illegally crossing into the U.S. I’ve seen it with my own eyes on a nightly basis for the past week,” he wrote in response to Ocasio-Cortez.
“Yes, there are kids here, often by themselves. It’s emotionally taxing to see that night after night because God only knows what they’ve been through. Funny how AOC raced down to TX for the winter storm but she can’t be bothered to come down now to see what’s happening,” he added.

In fact, the last time Ocasio-Cortez took a trip to the border was during the Trump administration during the last border crisis, where she was called out for appearing to anguish over detained migrants from behind a fence when in fact, she was facing an empty parking area and roadway.
I’ll never forget this, because it was the moment I saw with my own eyes that the America I love was becoming a nation that steals refugee children from their parents,& caged them.
More kids died after this. To date, no one has been held accountable.
We need to save these kids. https://t.co/HhdMqc5zML

On Monday, Lara Trump, who is said to be considering a run for the Senate in North Carolina, also blasted Ocasio-Cortez for essentially ignoring the current border crisis now that a Democratic president is in office.
“It’s total hypocrisy,” Lara Trump told on “Fox & Friends,” in reference to AOC and the current overcrowding in detention facilities. “The way they covered this under the Trump administration versus the Biden administration is total hypocrisy. Where is the outrage from the folks on the left?”
She added: “Where is AOC down there doing a photo op, crying in front of a wall, because I have news for her; it is much worse right now than it ever was under the Trump administration. Yet it has been crickets from those folks.”
Lara Trump also clapped back at White House press secretary Jen Psaki for blaming the previous administration for the current crisis and for claiming that under President Trump, migrant children were sent back on a “treacherous journey,” and that U.S. border agents were “ripping kids from the arms of their parents.”
“Totally ridiculous, obviously none of that was the case,” Trump said. “In fact, we had the most secure border under my father-in-law, under President Donald Trump, that we have had in decades, and I think the best thing possible is to discourage people from making that really dangerous, awful journey north through our southern border.”
She noted further: “The problem is that the Biden administration has said, ‘Well if they come, we’ll take you in,’ so guess what’s gonna continue to happen? You’re going to continue to have all of these children flooding our southern border.”
