WaPo slaps Biden with 4 Pinocchios for claim on Ga voting law, but it is arguably much worse than that

Don’t be encouraged by the Washington Post fact-checker giving President Joe Biden a Four Pinocchios rating for recent remarks the president made about Georgia’s new election reform bill.

The bill takes significant steps toward ensuring election integrity, with Democrats and their dishonest media allies erroneously billing it as voter suppression.

And while Biden called the legislation “a blatant attack on the Constitution and good conscience, and further called it “Jim Crow in the 21st Century,” both of which are not true, the Post fact-checker intervened over confusion about poll closing times during early voting, saying the president “framed his complaint in terms of a slap at working people.”

All of which presents the newspaper a marker to say Biden is fact-checked too, even though he’s a Democrat.

“What I’m worried about is how un-American this whole initiative is. It’s sick. It’s sick. Deciding in some states that you cannot bring water to people standing in line, waiting to vote; deciding that you’re going to end voting at five o’clock when working people are just getting off work; deciding that there will be no absentee ballots under the most rigid circumstances,” Biden said last week.

Washington Post fact-checker Glenn Kessler wrote:

“On Election Day in Georgia, polling places are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and if you are in line by 7 p.m., you are allowed to cast your ballot. Nothing in the new law changes those rules. However, the law did make some changes to early voting. But experts say the net effect was to expand the opportunities to vote for most Georgians, not limit them.

“One could understand a flub in a news conference. But then this same claim popped up in an official presidential statement. Not a single expert we consulted who has studied the law understood why Biden made this claim, as this was the section of law that expanded early voting for many Georgians.”

Talk about low-hanging fruit. Yet, Kessler didn’t mention the Jim Crow comment or the attack on the Constitution.

Biden repeated those false claims in a tweet responding to the bill, calling it “a blatant attack on the right to vote, the Constitution, and good conscience. It’s Jim Crow in the 21st Century — and it must end.”

Kessler did share the concerns the left has about the voter reform bill, and noted that Biden “has echoed many of those concerns.”

“The law has come under fire for restricting the distribution of food and water to people standing in line, making it harder to cast absentee ballots, reducing drop boxes for mail ballots, barring mobile voting places and for making significant procedural changes that potentially give more power to the GOP-controlled legislature in the election process,” Kessler wrote.

The concerns being presented as fact, of course.
