Report: Hunter Biden caught up in damning handgun incident in 2018 involving Secret Service, FBI

Presidential son Hunter Biden was involved in a strange incident in 2018 regarding a handgun that also involved Secret Service and FBI agents, according to a Thursday report by Politico.

According to a police report obtained by the outlet, Hallie Biden, then a daughter-in-law to Joe Biden, took a gun that Hunter had purchased and tossed it into a garbage bin behind a grocery store, but when she returned later to retrieve it, the gun was missing.

Law enforcement officials who spoke to Politico, as well as the police itself, noted that Delaware State Police got involved early on investigating the incident.

But Politico noted that, at the time, Secret Service agents went to the gun store where Hunter purchased the .38 revolver and asked for the paperwork linked to the sale.

Citing two sources — one which claimed to have first-hand knowledge of the incident and another who was briefed by a Secret Service agent afterward — Politico said that the gun store owner, Ron Palmieri, would not give agents the paperwork over suspicions that they would try to hide the fact that Hunter owned the gun in case it was utilized in a crime.

Rather, Palmieri would eventually turn over the paperwork to agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives because the agency regulates gun sales and oversees federal firearms laws.

Politico reported that the Secret Service told the outlet there is no record of its agents visiting the gun store. And through a spokesperson, Joe Biden claimed to have no knowledge of the incident.

“Days later, the gun was returned by an older man who regularly rummages through the grocery store’s trash to collect recyclable items, according to people familiar with the situation,” Politico reported.

But a law enforcement source told the outlet that at the time, Secret Service agents stationed at  Wilmington, Del., office kept an informal watch over the former vice president’s security.

To that end, “any involvement by the Secret Service on behalf of the Biden family or on its own initiative would be inappropriate interference in an incident that was already being investigated by Delaware State Police with the involvement of the FBI,” Politico reported, citing law enforcement sources.

The outlet managed to obtain a record of the gun sale, dated Oct. 12, 2018; the date of the incident in which the gun was tossed into the trash by Hallie is Oct. 23, 2018, just days later.

Interestingly, Hunter responded “no” to a question on his firearms application, “Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?”

Five years before, he was discharged from the U.S. Naval Reserve after he tested positive for cocaine use.

Lying on a federal firearms application is a felony, but thus far, Hunter has yet to be formally charged.

Additionally, at the time of the incident, Hunter was romantically involved with Hallie, who was the wife of his deceased brother, Beau.

According to a Delaware State Police report, the incident started when Hallie decided to search Hunter’s pickup over because of “suspicions she had,” and found the handgun.

She then took the revolver to a nearby high-end grocery store often frequented by the Bidens called Janssen’s Market, where she threw it wrapped in a black shopping bag into the trash bin.

Later in the day she told Hunter what she did and he ordered her to go back and retrieve the pistol, but it was gone. Police records indicate that the missing weapon caused additional concerns because the trash bin and store are located across the street from a high school.

Shortly thereafter, FBI agents also arrived, as the bureau was keeping tabs on Hunter because he was the center of an investigation reportedly focused on his taxes, which is ongoing.

Police questioned Hallie and also called Hunter to the scene for questioning as well, who told investigators he used the gun for target practice.

One officer noted in a report that when Hunter was asked if the gun had been used in any crimes, he “became very agitated with me and asked me if I was intentionally trying to make him mad.”

The officer then asked Hunter if he had been doing drugs or drinking, to which he responded: “Listen, it isn’t like that. I think she believes I was gonna kill myself.”

He was then asked if he had called his father while en route to be questioned. “I have never called my dad for anything,” he said, according to police records.

The Secret Service agents arrived at the gun store, StarQuest Shooters & Survival Supply in Wilmington, as Hunter and Hallie were being questioned, the two sources told Politico.
