GOP lawmaker rips Dems ‘unconstitutional’ push for DC statehood: ‘This is about 2 new Senate seats’

In case you haven’t caught on yet, today’s Democratic Party is arguably all about manipulating the process of government to gain an upper hand and seize power.

Whether it’s the electoral process, the Supreme Court, the number of U.S. senators or the census, which takes place every ten years to reapportion the House, expect some effort from the party to intervene in one manner or another.

An important battle is shaping up in the Senate, where Democrats are looking to do away with the filibuster, or change the rules to render it ineffective, which could pave the way to the party packing the Supreme Court. And there is a growing emphasis on adding Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico as the 51st and 52nd states — a move that all but guarantees the Democratic Party four additional Senate seats.

The Democratic mayor of the nation’s capital, Mayor Muriel Bowser, is pushing hard for the implementation of statehood for the District of Columbia.

“They say DC is too small, or our economy is not diverse enough,” Bowser tweeted on Monday. “Even though we’re bigger by population than two states and pay more per capita than any state; we pay more in total federal taxes than 22 states. No reason for this Congress not to right this wrong. #DCStatehood

Bowser appeared before the House Oversight Committee on Monday to make a bid for statehood,

“We are here to demand that the 220-year history of us not being represented in the capital of our country be corrected,” Bowser said to the committee.

The Founders, through Article I of the U.S. Constitution, provided that the country’s capital would not be a state, which means statehood would require a two-thirds vote by Congress.

Democrats countered with H.R. 51, a creative bill that effectively reduces the capital to the National Mall, monuments, White House and various federal buildings, allowing for the rest of the district to become a new state.

Naturally, Democrats brought race into the matter, as seen from U.S. Reps. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., resident members of “the squad” who sit on the Oversight Committee.

Pressley crowed that if successful, D.C. would immediately become the blackest state in the country, WIS News10 reported.

“D.C. statehood is a racial-justice issue,” she proclaimed.

Being the extremist that she is, Tlaib took it even further, calling the Founders Fathers “a bunch of “elites” who “thought it was OK to enslave people.”

In the process, she took a shot at the conservative Heritage Foundation — Zack Smith, a legal fellow with the organization, testified before the committee — after saying those who oppose D.C. statehood “support taxation without representation.”

“In opposing D.C. statehood … these representatives and their backers over at the Heritage Foundation — that’s right — are telling over 700,000 Americans to sit down, shut up, and enjoy this authoritarian system implemented by a bunch of elites who thought it was OK to enslave people for their selfish monetary gain hundreds of years ago,” Tlaib said.

U.S. Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., was one of the Republicans willing to call the effort what it is.

“This bill is about two new Senate seats,” said the ranking member. “There’s not a single Republican in Congress, in the House or the Senate, that supports this bill.”

“Today is all about creating two new Democratic senate seats… Speaker Pelosi is stepping in with an unconstitutional bill to make Washington, D.C., a city smaller than Columbus, Ohio, and a city that just so happens to be 90 percent Democratic, the 51st state,” Comer added.
