Blaming ‘cowardice’ of Bishops, priest rips Biden for abortion stance saying he’d give communion ‘over my dead body’

An Arizona priest blasted President Joe Biden over his support for abortion and blamed decades’ worth of “cowardice” among American bishops for refusing to call him out over it.

During a recent homily, Fr. William Kosco of Buckeye, Ariz., began by asking parishioners to not “walk out” of his homily if they voted for Biden because politics should not be placed “above your faith.”

He went on to note that Biden’s political positions are “diametrically opposed to all of the basic moral principles that are proclaimed by the Roman Catholic Church.”

The country’s second self-professed Catholic president after John F. Kennedy, Biden often describes himself as a “devout Catholic,” but his views on abortion do not comport with the Church’s teachings about the sanctity of life, Kosco pointed out.

Abortion is an “abominable crime” that is “gravely contrary to the moral law” of the Church, he told parishioners.

“Since the first century, the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable,” says the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which further notes that any Catholic who has an abortion is excommunicated automatically.

“He’s the most powerful man in the world and he is absolutely opposed to the basic understanding that God is the author of life,” Kosco said. “How in the world did this happen? You want an answer? I’ll tell you the answer: because our bishops have been silent for 60 years through bad catechesis and cowardice.”

Kosco’s homily was in February, shortly after Biden repealed the so-called “Mexico City Policy,” which prohibited taxpayer dollars from being used to fund abortions overseas, a move that was blasted by pro-life leaders.

“Rescinding the Mexico City Policy on the eve of the March for Life is a deeply disturbing move, especially when the president says he wants national unity,” said March for Life President Jeanne Mancini, the Daily Caller reported.

“It goes against the wishes of an overwhelming majority of Americans,” Mancini continued, citing a survey by the Knights of Columbus and Marist University showing three-of-four Americans opposed taxpayer funding of abortions.

“The government should never force taxpayers to fund abortions, either here or abroad, but should work to protect the inherent dignity of all persons, born and unborn,” Mancini added.

Meanwhile, Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser pointed out that Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris pledged to unify the country when they were elected, but the change in policy “flies in the face” of that.

“Americans across the political spectrum oppose the use of taxpayer funding to promote abortion and abortion businesses,” Dannenfelser said in a statement. “Despite this, the new administration is moving forward with a payout to the abortion industry that backed their political campaign.

As for Kosco, he told parishioners he would not give Biden communion due to his pro-abortion stance.

“Over my dead body,” he said. “He’s a public figure. He needs to publicly repent. We need to pray for his conversion.”

Following his homily, parishioners at the St. Henry’s Catholic Church applauded, but Kosco dismissed it.

“Don’t applaud. We need to hang our heads in shame. We’ve tolerated this for too long,” he said.

The priest added that he will probably get his “butt kicked” but that he spoke out because “it’s the right thing to do.”

“Woe to me if I don’t preach the Gospel,” he added.
