Lockdown-loving Calif. Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is likely facing a recall because of the draconian COVID-related regulations that he imposed on the state, claims he has personal experience within his family with the “brutal” shortcomings of remote learning.
But that contention appears to get a failing grade for accuracy.
Now somehow positioning himself as a champion of reopening the public schools as the political winds have fundamentally changed, Democrat Newsom told the host of CNN’s “The Lead with Jake Tapper” in the clip below that “I’ve been a strong advocate for safely getting our kids back in person for instruction. I have four young kids myself. I’ve been living through Zoom school and all of the challenges related to it. It’s brutal.”
Critics might wonder how would he know. “Newsom, 53, has four children who attend a Sacramento private school that brought students back to full-time in-person learning in November after a period of ‘hybrid’ home and school classes,” Fox News reported.
“Newsom’s ‘Zoom school’ experience stands in stark contrast to that of most California families. Nearly all Sacramento-area public schools were closed when the Democrat’s children resumed in-person learning. And while a majority of California public schools are now set to open their doors by early April, many districts are limiting in-person instruction to just one or two days a week in order to receive state funding under Newsom’s reopening plan,” the Washington Free Beacon explained.
“California parents say Newsom’s comments reflect a ‘real lack of understanding’ of what his constituents are dealing with,” the news outlet added.

Newsom’s office has, as yet, not responded to the apparent contradiction in that his kids have reportedly been back in school for about five months.
The governor, who many believe has national aspirations, would hardly be the first limousine liberal (or champagne socialist in U.K. terminology) who — with wealth and/or connections — has insulated himself from the policies imposed on everyone else. Newsom is getting a lot of airtime on corporate media as these liberal media platforms try to throw him a political lifeline.
The Newsom recall effort gained tremendous traction with a broad cross-section of the state population beyond just Republicans or Republican-leaners after the governor was caught violating his own stay-at-home rules by partying maskless with lobbyists at an upscale eatery in northern California. As alluded to above, Newsom is one of many Democrats around the country who were caught flouting their own coronavirus guidelines.
As of the March 17 legal deadline, recall organizers indicate that they have compiled approximately 2 million signatures, about 500,000 more than they need under the law. If enough signatures pass muster in the verification process that runs through April 29, the recall will go forward later this year.
In casting their ballots, voters — in a state controlled completely by Democrats and where ballot harvesting is legal — could, in the end, decide to keep Newsom in office, rather than remove him, however, in the recall election.
Newsom has previously admitted making some mistakes during the pandemic, with a relatively vague reference to the public deserving a better explanation about the austere restrictions on businesses, schools, and individuals that he imposed, and the changes that occurred to those guidelines along the way. He also conceded that his restaurant excursion was a blunder.

Subsequently unveiling his anti-recall strategy, Newsom has branded his opponents as Republican partisans and extremists.
Washington Examiner columnist Zachary Faria has a different view about the impetus behind the impending recall of the far-left politician from the so-called party of science.
Newsom’s “coronavirus restrictions were an incoherent mess…Newsom only has his own failures to thank for this, no matter how much he tries to make it about former President Donald Trump or the Proud Boys. He was the one who imposed harsh restrictions on everyday Californians while choosing to violate them in the most elitist way possible. He was the one who gave special carve-outs to celebrities. This recall is one of his own making, and he certainly deserves it,” Faria wrote.
Fox News contributor Leo “2.0” Terrell has similarly pointed out that Californians from all walks of life and backgrounds who want to go back to work and school are wholly dissatisfied with the way Newsom is governing the state.
