A top Utah Department of Health official has dismissed concerns surrounding the death of a 39-year-old Utah mother with no preexisting conditions who died only four days after taking the second dose of Moderna’s coronavirus vaccine last month.
Speaking this week with Fox News, Dr. Erik Christensen, Utah Department of Health’s chief medical examiner, said that the two events are only “temporally related,” meaning that their only relation is that they occurred around the same time.
“We don’t have any evidence that there are connections between the vaccines and deaths at this point. We don’t have any indication of that,” he reportedly told Fox News.
This, he added, doesn’t mean there aren’t known side effects to these vaccines.
“Certainly, there are side effects of a vaccine that are directly linkable to the vaccine and what’s going on in your body. You know, the pain in the arm …the fever-like symptoms related to your immune response to what was put into you. Those kinds of things clearly happen,” he said.
According to news station KRIS, the first shot obtained by Kassidi Kurill, who required it as per her job as a surgical technician, “went without any issues aside from the usual arm soreness.” But after the second shot on Feb. 1st, problems arose.
“What started as arm soreness and flu-like symptoms escalated. Everyone at her job had the symptoms so none of her family thought much of it. After being bed ridden for two days, she knew something was wrong on the third day,” the station reported.
“Thursday, Feb. 4 she went to the local ER around 7 a.m. She began throwing up immediately. After blood testing they found her liver was failing. She was then transferred. They tried to find her a match for a kidney transplant and get her stable at the hospital. Nothing worked. After her liver failed, her kidney and heart followed. She passed roughly 30 hours after entering the emergency room.”

Kurill’s family is convinced her death is linked directly to the vaccine, though this alone didn’t stop her father, Alfred Hawley, from obtaining the vaccine himself.
“Despite his daughter’s tragic death, Hawley, who is 69 and diabetic, still got the vaccine himself because of the threat COVID-19 poses to his demographic. He says he recognizes that his daughter’s tragic death was one in a million,” according to Fox News.
“It appears she was the odd one out that had the terrible reaction,” Hawley said.
His thinking was basically that she did indeed die from the vaccine, but that her death was a one-in-a-million chance anomaly. And so he was still adamant that the coronavirus vaccines are a net positive and should be taken by all Americans.
“[T]he vaccine is going to help you,” he said to Fox News, though he also urged Americans to contact medical officials immediately if they do experience problems.
“But if you have a reaction to it, don’t ignore it. Don’t be stoic and just say, ‘Oh, I’ll be fine.’ Pay attention. If it persists beyond a day, you might ought to go see a doctor. And make sure that you’re not another one in a million,” he said.
This isn’t to say he doesn’t want answers. He does.
“She was seemingly healthy as a horse. She had no known underlying conditions,” he told Fox News, adding that he’s currently awaiting the results of an autopsy.
He repeated the same to Utah station KUTV.

Kurill isn’t the first person whose death coincided with the administration of a coronavirus vaccine.
“A few countries have reported deaths following administration of Covid-19 vaccines, but medical specialists have found no evidence of a connection to the inoculations,” The Washington Post reported last month.
In Norway, for instance, 33 people over the age of 75 reportedly died in mid-January within days of receiving Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine.
However, the World Health Organization dismissed the deaths, claiming they were “in line with the expected, all-cause mortality rates and causes of death in the sub-population of frail, elderly individuals.”
In the U.K. meanwhile, the U.K.’s Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency reported that there were 143 post-vaccine deaths as of Jan. 24th, and in Germany the Paul Ehrlich Institute reported at least even post-vaccine deaths.
In every case, the deaths were attributed to anything but the vaccine. It’s as if the very notion that these deaths could have been caused by the vaccine is verboten.
In Kurill’s case, her father is hopeful the autopsy might offer some real answers. In the meantime, her family has set up a GoFundMe to raise money to help her 9-year-old daughter, Emilia.

“On Friday, February 5th Kass was suddenly and tragically taken from her wonderful family. She was life flighted to IHC in Murray, where they did everything they could to save her,” the fundraiser reads.
“She leaves behind an amazing family that has already buried one child in the last year. She also leaves behind Kassidi Jr., Emilia, ‘Millie’ that is just 9 years old and was her mama’s little sidekick. I would love to help raise money for her little one to help with her future. Please help me reach my goal.”
According to station KUTV, they’d all lived together — Kurill, her daughter, her father and her mother — under one roof.
“Kurill and her 9-year-old daughter, Emilia, lived with her parents. They’d been one family under the same roof since Emilia was born. Mom and Dad, grandma and grandpa always close by when they were needed,” the station reported.
