Manhattan school axes terms like ‘mom & dad,’ ‘boys & girls,’ provides glossary of acceptable language

The damage being done to our children in the name of “inclusivity” may take years to fully comprehend, but there are plenty who call it for what it is: child abuse.

A Manhattan private school where parents spend $57,000 a year to send their kids is pushing more “inclusive language,” encouraging its students to stop using terms like “mom” and “dad” because it makes “assumptions” about how others may live. The school also encourages gender-neutral terms over terms like “boys” and “girls.”

The Grace Church School in Noho, North of Houston Street, distributed a 12-page guide detailing its mission of inclusivity, an inclusionary glossary that instructs students and staff to avoid saying “Merry Christmas” or even “Happy Holidays,” opting instead for “Have a great break!”

“The goal of this guide is to provide the community with more inclusive language that is aligned with the mission of Grace Church School,” the Grace Inclusionary Language Guide reads. “While we recognize hateful language that promotes racism, misogyny, homophobia, and other forms of discrimination are already addressed in our school handbooks, we also recognize that we can do more than ban hateful lanugage (sic); we can use language to create welcoming and inclusive spaces.”

(As can be seen above, the guide misspelled language in its very first paragraph.)

Offering academic courses for junior kindergarten through 12th grade, Grace Church instructs on appropriate terms to be used in regard to gender, sexual orientation, race and ethnicity. “Traditional Family” is held up as an “outdated” term.

“Families are formed and structured in many ways. At Grace Church School, we use inclusive language that reflects this diversity,” the guide says. “It’s important to refrain from making assumptions about who kids live with, who cares for them, whether they sleep in the same place every night, whether they see their parents, etc.”

Students are informed that sometimes an individual’s gender identity doesn’t “match their sex assigned at birth,” and “using gender inclusive language can provide critical affirmation to students across the gender spectrum.”

“Pronouns are used to identify someone when not saying their name,” the guide says. “Common pronouns include he, him, his, and she, her, hers. For folks all along the gender spectrum, using the right pronouns can be affirming to their gender identity, or on the flip side can be detrimental if they are misgendered.”

Rev. Robert Pennoyer, assistant head of the school, defended the guide in a statement to City Journal.

“Grace is an Episcopal school,” Pennover said. ” As part of our Episcopal identity, we recognize the dignity and worth common to humanity.”

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich commented on the school’s actions during an appearance on “Fox & Friends,” likening actions like this to “craziness.”

He also reminded viewers of the actions of the Democratic Party.

“Nobody has noticed it yet, but the House Democrats unanimously voted in the rules to eliminate mother, father, brother, sister, because they took out 29 gender-specific names,” he explained, adding that we are “seeing a tremendous assault on the whole notion of whether there are males and females.”

“We’re in a period where the weirdest people — and it will get me in trouble for saying it but I’m old enough that I grew up in a different world. I grew up in a world where we recognize there really were mother and father and we thought it was a good idea to have a mother and a father. We thought it was a good idea to recognize boys and girls,” Gingrich said.

He then noted that there’s a bill in California that would make it illegal for retailers to have a boy’s section and a girl’s section.

“This is a madness,” Gingrich concluded. “I recently did a podcast with [Dr. Gad Saad] and he’s amazing because he says basically, we now have parasites in our brain that are cultural parasites, and that people just literally are crazy and I think you’re seeing an example of the craziness.”
