NYT finally gives Trump a fair shake, praises speedy vaccine rollout enabling Biden admin to follow through

The next time you step outside, keep your eyes peeled for flying pigs, because it appears hell has finally frozen over.

The New York Times, a bastion of anti-Trump commentary and “reporting,” published a genuinely fair and balanced piece Wednesday giving credit to both former President Donald Trump and current President Joe Biden for the coronavirus vaccine.

Before you get angry, hear them out: Investigative reporter Sharon LaFraniere made the case that Trump absolutely deserves credit for getting the ball rolling by launching Operation Warp Speed and establishing the groundwork for vaccine distribution.

But she also argued that Biden absolutely deserves credit for taking the ball from Trump and then using it to accelerate a process that had begun under his predecessor.

Her assessment was published in response to the Biden administration patting itself on the back for achieving a record number of vaccinations in a single day.

Beyond the triumphant tone, a closer look at the ramp-up offers a more mixed picture, one in which the new administration expanded and bulked up a vaccine production effort whose key elements were in place when Mr. Biden took over for President Donald J. Trump. Both administrations deserve credit, although neither wants to grant much to the other,” she wrote.

LaFraniere may very well be the first media figure outside of Fox News to admit this, as most members have been eager to trash the Trump administration at every step of the vaccine production and distribution process.

Once in office, the Biden administration took steps to “hasten vaccine production.” For this, the current president deserves credit, LaFraniere continued.

However, she added, his successes were possible because he “benefited hugely from the waves of vaccine production that the Trump administration had set in motion.”

“Mr. Biden had been in office less than a month when Moderna announced that it could deliver 200 million doses by the end of May, a month earlier than scheduled, simply because it had become faster at production. Pfizer was able to shave off even more time, moving up the timetable to deliver its 200 million doses by a full two months, partly because of newfound efficiencies and partly because it was given credit for six doses per vial instead of five,” LaFraniere noted.

“All this enabled Mr. Biden to announce that his administration would have enough doses in hand by the end of May to cover all 257 million adults, two months earlier than he had promised just a few weeks earlier. His aides noted that on Sunday, the nation hit a daily record of 2.9 million shots, three and a half times as many as were given on Inauguration Day,” she wrote.

While that’s true, the Biden administration’s lack of humility — and its insistence that it alone deserves credit for the vaccine– hasn’t sat well with Trump administration officials.

It doesn’t help that the administration keeps trashing its predecessors:

“They criticize what we did, but they are using our playbook every step of the way,” Trump era U.S. Department of Health and Human Services official Paul Mango, one of those involved with Operation Warp Speed, said to LaFraniere.

Unlike the Biden administration, Mango was willing to give credit to the admin for “maintaining a very nice trajectory.” How mature of him.

The Biden administration meanwhile still continues to claim that it inherited nothing — absolutely nothing — from the Trump administration.

“There was no national strategy or plan for vaccinations. We were leaving it to the states and local leaders to try and figure it out. And so in many ways, we’re starting from scratch on something that’s been raging for almost an entire year!” Vice President Kamala Harris said less than a month ago.

And apparently, the Times’ readers believe her over LaFraniere, because many of the top-voted comments attached to the piece accuse former President Trump of having done nothing — absolutely nothing — to stop the pandemic.

They likewise accuse the Times of playing the “both sides” game.

“‘Both sides, both sides, both sides…’ Please, can we drop the ridiculous pretense? Trump was an utter disgrace that caused almost half a million unnecessary deaths through incompetence and refusal to respect science. Let’s not pretend it’s just a question of stylistic differences between the last, thoroughly illegitimate administration and the current one,” one comment reads.

“Over 500,000 Americans including my wife died horribly and alone from Covid. Please don’t tell me that Trump did anything to help the situation. He ignored the pandemic for a year, lied about cures mocked those who wore masks and played golf as America died. Ultimately he is the biggest mass murderer in American history who found no time to acknowledge our suffering,” another adds.

The “biggest mass murderer in American history”?? REALLY!?

It seems it’s going to take far more than just one fair and balanced report from the Times to deal with the conspiracy theories and misinformation/disinformation that’s accepted as truth by #BlueAnon thanks to, ironically enough, the Times’ own notoriously flawed past reporting.
