Psaki takes rare hit from press on Biden’s border mess: ‘If that doesn’t qualify as a crisis, what does?’

It seems everyone in America — even CNN — understands that there’s a crisis on the southern U.S. border, as tens of thousands of illegal immigrants incentivized by President Joe Biden’s open border policies flock to America — hell, they even wear t-shirts with Biden’s name on them.

Well, almost everyone, as White House press secretary Jen Psaki has yet to call the overrun border situation a crisis, though she does boast that they “are not turning kids away at the border.”

This being a not so subtle play on language to give Democrats a moral imperative to open our borders, though there is no humanity in drawing poor migrants to America when considering the abuse they often endure, and the sex trafficking it perpetuates.

Somewhat surprisingly, some in the media are pressing the administration, as seen on Tuesday when Psaki was asked directly if there was a crisis.

“I don’t think we need to sit here and put new labels on what we have already conveyed is challenging, what we have conveyed as a top priority for the president,” she replied.

“Why has this administration been so reluctant to call it a crisis?” one reporter asked. “With a huge uptick in the number of migrants being detained, including thousands of children, if that doesn’t qualify as a crisis, what does?”

The reporter got a small word salad from the press secretary for the effort.

“We think that it’s most important to explain the substantive policy of what’s happening, what the root causes are of why these kids are coming, and what we’re doing to try to solve what is a very challenging circumstance at the border,” Psaki said.

CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins cited Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’s reluctance to call the overwhelmed border a crisis during last week’s visit.

“But right now, since it is 3200 unaccompanied migrant children, according to documents from Monday, that’s higher than the peak of the 2019 border crisis, when it was around 2,600 then, and at that period there were kids sleeping on floors, they were overcrowded facilities,” Collins said. “So when his delegation traveled there, did they see that?”

Psaki further incentivized the influx, saying that they are not turning migrants away, again using the term “kids,” stressing that they are also “not ripping them from the arms of their parents.”

“We knew — we know there is going to be an increased number of kids coming across the border,” she further replied, adding that they are working on steps to address that.

She would also say the administration was committed to letting reporters inside the facilities sometime soon.

CNN’s Erin Burnett danced around calling the situation on the border a crisis on her show, but let it be known that the numbers are at record levels.

“The White House saying the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border is not a crisis yet,” she said. “But it does come as a record number of unaccompanied migrant children are in custody at the southern border, and the more than 100,000 migrants arrested and encountered in recent weeks is at a five-year high.”

“So, whatever you want to call it, it is a dramatic surge,” Burnett added.

CNN national correspondent Ed Lavandera, reporting from the border, appeared on the show to say that there’s an “emergency level” of illegal immigrants arriving at the border, and that data shows there are “3,400 unaccompanied children in the custody of Customs and Border Protection.”

“Migrants who have spent the last month traveling towards the U.S. border describe seeing many children by themselves making the journey to the U.S. southern border. That is a pressing concern,” the reporter said.

“This kind of situation, you can see how quickly it can escalate into a crisis,” he added. “Children in custody and how they’re handled is a very delicate situation. They’re only supposed to be in CBP custody for about 72 hours and then moved to other facilities or other sponsors. And that doesn’t appear to be happening as fast as it should right now.”
