While Fox News host Trey Gowdy, a former South Carolina congressman, said Sen. Tim Scott was “too good” to respond to a racially-driven smear from MSNBC host Joy Reid, his former colleague proved him wrong.
In very few words, Scott did respond to the insult from the race-baiting cable TV host with a history of bigotry, and what powerful words they were.
“Let me just say this about what you said,” Scott replied. “Woke supremacy is as bad as white supremacy. We need to take that seriously.”
Gowdy opened “Fox News Primetime” with a rant taking Reid to task for essentially calling his friend a token for being the only black Republican senator, suggesting the color of his skin was his key qualification.
“Tim Scott is a United States senator who worked his tail off to be part of nearly every significant policy conversation this country has,” Gowdy said. “He can stand wherever the hell he wants to stand and any group he wants to stand with because he has earned the right to be there. The fact that you see a black man as a prop, Joy Reid, says a lot more about you than it does about Tim Scott.”
Reid has used the term “token” before in regard to Scott, and has smeared Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas by calling him “Uncle Clarence.”
Last week, while commenting on a GOP press conference opposing a minimum wage, she set her sights on Scott.
The MSNBC host played a clip of Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., opposing the Democratic effort to include a $15 minimum wage as part of their $1.9-trillion COVID relief bill in a segment with Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash.
The senator from South Carolina was standing behind Thune.
“You’ve got to love Tim Scott standing there to provide the patina of diversity over that round of words, that basket full of words,” Reid said.
As Gowdy would explain, a patina “is a superficial covering — it’s her way of calling Senator Scott a prop, or a token.”
Scott’s press secretary Caroline Anderegg, responded on Twitter the same day: [Sen. Tim Scott] is not a prop.”
“Unsurprising that someone like Joy would stoop that low — I guess that’s what you do in the absence of a substantive policy critique,” Anderegg would add. “The senator has been leading the fight against the misguided Dem wage hike for weeks.”

Reid has a rich history of controversial actions, which clearly did not deter MSNBC from not only hiring her, but promoting her to a prime time show.
She was forced to apologize on-air over homophobic and offensive blog posts that had surfaced, according to Fox News.
The posts were written in the 2000s and Reid tried to claim that she had been hacked, and that she did not write them. After an investigation was conducted, Reid confessed that she had written the posts, insisting that she had grown since then.
