While left-wing comedian Bill Maher is generally pretty vile in his offerings, even he is growing tired of the sanctimonious lecturing on the left.
Maher called attention to the various awareness campaigns on this week’s episode of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” to include the politically correct embrace of the oft-violent Black Lives Matter movement.
“It’s time to raise awareness about a very serious problem — raising awareness,” said Maher. “We raise too much of it, and it’s making us crazy, anxious and depressed. Must we be sad about everything all the time?”
“The ribbons, the flags, the ads, the hashtags, it’s like that person on the plane in the next seat who won’t take a hint that you don’t want to talk,” he added.
The host named a litany of campaigns being recognized in the month of March, from Glaucoma Week to World Down Syndrome Day. He also pointed to the efforts around breast cancer, to include NFL players wearing pink shoes and attire.

“Let me go on record and say I’m against breast cancer, but I’m trying to escape for a few hours,” Maher said. “Can I just watch the game without thinking about cancer?”
The line drew tepid applause from the live audience.
“Budweiser pulled their ads from this year’s Super Bowl and donated the money to raise awareness about Covid — which I’m pretty aware of,” he added. “Hey, Budweiser, you weren’t put on earth to raise my awareness, you were put on earth to lower it.”
Maher then moved to set up his hit on Black Lives Matter.
“Humans need to zone out sometimes,” he said. “That’s why marijuana is popular. And meditating. It’s not a privilege to take a break from everyone else’s problems, it’s an imperative.”
After stating that he should be able to watch “The Price is Right” without being urged to castrate his dog, Maher tried to walk a PC tightrope, but ultimately reduced BLM to little more than a “white guilt trip.”
“Crew members on the major airlines wear Black Lives Matter pins during the flight,” he noted. “You know, you can support a movement without constantly being reminded of it. Can I just get a rum and Coke, and hold the white guilt trip until we land?”
“Must we use every available platform as an issue billboard — clothing, commercials, social media, sporting events, award shows milk,” Maher concluded. “I feel like this all started with milk. Someone in the 80’s looked at a milk carton and said what a waste not using milk as a vehicle for missing children to plead with you to ‘put down the shredded wheat and get out there and crack my cold case.'”
In the end, he called it what it often is: virtue signaling.
“That ribbon isn’t there to make me think so much as to raise awareness of what a good person you are,” he closed, suggesting that April should be “Chill the F*ck Out Month.”
Comically, actress Rosanna Arquette compared Maher to former President Donald Trump over the analogy, tweeting: “Bill Maher: Stop Awareness Causes Like Black Lives Matter …because he’s playing to his base like Trump. What a truly despicable thing to say.”
