‘We feel used and betrayed’: Add pro-life evangelicals to the list of Biden remorse – to the surprise of no one

An apparently very gullible group known as Pro-Life Evangelicals for Biden has released an open letter admitting it feels “used and betrayed” by the Democrats because of omissions in the purported coronavirus relief bill that bails out blue states.

In explaining what amounts to an acknowledgement of Biden buyer’s remorse, the group’s letter explained, in part, that “We feel very disappointed about the COVID-19 relief package’s exclusion of the Hyde Amendment, a longstanding bipartisan policy that prevents taxpayer funding for abortion. We’re even more upset that the Biden administration is supporting the bill.”

The letter goes on to recall “The Biden team wanted to talk to us during the campaign to gain our support, and we gave it on the condition that there would be active dialogue and common ground solutions on the issue of abortion. There has been no dialogue since the campaign.”

Named after the late GOP Congressman Henry Hyde, the amendment in question prohibits federal funding for abortions except in certain circumstances such as saving the life of the mother or rape or incest.

The open letter, which would appear to get a failing grade in Politics 101 and perhaps gives a new meaning to the often-used political term useful idiots, also claims that “Many evangelicals and Catholics took risks to support Biden publicly. President Biden and Democrats need to honor their courage.”

In the polarized political climate during Election 2020, however, backing Biden was actually the least risky option.

On its website that urged evangelicals to elect the Democrat presidential nominee, the group claimed that despite disagreements on the abortion issue, “we believe that on balance, Joe Biden’s policies are more consistent with the biblically shaped ethic of life than those of Donald Trump.”

Not every American fits squarely in the pro-life or pro-choice camp. Many are understandably conflicted about this sensitive personal issue. That said, everyone with even an iota of awareness knows that the Democrat establishment is almost universally for abortion on demand.

According to American Conservative (and Trump critic) senior editor Rod Dreher, “I get withholding one’s vote from Donald Trump out of Christian principle. But I do not get supporting Joe Biden because you thought, you really thought, that a Democratic president would be anything other than a  pro-abortion fanatic.”

It’s a study in contrasts. Washington Examiner columnist Becket Adams wrote in August 2020 that “It is still unclear whether President Trump, personally, is staunchly pro-life. It still seems likely that, based on past comments and behavior, he does not have strong feelings one way or the other on the issue. Yet Trump has managed somehow to become the most pro-life president since at least the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision.”

Cataloging the administration’s policy decisions, he added that [Trump] “has done and said more for the pro-life movement than any other president in the last 40-plus years.”

In a way perhaps, this organization could almost be channeling Captain Renault from the iconic movie Casablanca who famously said inside Rick’s cafe that “I’m shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!”

Twitter users are calling out the easily misled evangelical group for being very late to the (pity) party, in this case the Democrat Party. Here is a sampling:
