In response to former Vice President Mike Pence penning a thoughtful column touting the need for better laws to protect the integrity of America’s elections, CNN far-left commentator Don Lemon threw a fit accusing him of “debasing” himself.
Writing for The Daily Signal on Wednesday, Pence argued that the improprieties seen during the 2020 election — “significant voting irregularities and numerous instances of officials setting aside state election law” — call for better election laws.
“After an election marked by significant voting irregularities and numerous instances of officials setting aside state election law, I share the concerns of millions of Americans about the integrity of the 2020 election,” the piece began.
The problem, Pence continued, is that the Democrats’ latest bill, H.R. 1, the so-called “For the People Act,” would only exacerbate the problem by opening the door up for even more irregularities and more officials bypassing state election law.
The bill would “eliminate” election safeguards and “prevent states from implementing new, needed reforms,” he explained. Sounds a fair point, no? Yet here’s how Lemon responded to Pence’s piece:
In the unhinged rant above, Lemon focused specifically on the first sentence of Pence’s piece and used it to accuse the former VP of peddling the so-called “big lie.”
Speaking specifically about the Jan. 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol, he said “it all happened because of the big lie. The big lie. And incredibly one of the people whose life was threatened that day is still doubling down on the big lie today.”
“Mike Pence incredibly writing an op-ed on a conservative web site pushing the bogus charge that there were, his words, significant voting irregularities in the last election,” Lemon continued.
“There were no significant voting irregularities, people. Stop falling for this bull crap. Not — it wasn’t. Didn’t happen. I know you want it to. Didn’t happen. There weren’t. No matter how many times the former president’s enables say it, it’s not true,” Lemon said.
The problem with the CNN commentator’s claim is that the adjective “significant” is subjective, meaning that his definition of it may not be the same as Pence’s definition.
To be clear, nowhere in the former vice president’s column did he suggest that the irregularities were enough to change the outcome of the 2020 election. In fact, he didn’t even write about the outcome of the election. His only concern was election integrity.
“He’s so enthralled to this disgraced, twice-impeached, one-term former president that he is still supporting that big lie, the big lie that nearly got him killed,” Lemon added, after which he played a video of Jan. 6th rioters shouting, “Hang Mike Pence!”
“Mike Pence knows that that was a lie. He knows. And they were saying, hang Mike Pence. Geez. The big lie that incited those rioters put up — see the gallows? They wanted to hang you, Mike Pence, for something you know is a lie,” Lemon said.
The notion that former President Donald Trump won the 2020 election is indeed a lie, but again, nowhere in his column did Pence make any such assertion.
“Come on, Mike Pence. You care about power that much? I guess you do. Sorry, I shouldn’t even ask that question. I shouldn’t waste my time. All that and Mike Pence is still sucking up to his former boss. Have you not debased yourself enough for that man?” Lemon rudely added.
Considering that CNN has spent years obsessing over Trump and everything about him, including his penis, it’s not clear Lemon is in any position to ask such a question.

“And let’s remember Donald Trump didn’t even call Mike Pence during the riot to find out if he and his family were OK. Instead, he tweeted before he was permanently banned from Twitter for his lies, tweeted an attack on his own vice president,” the CNN commentator continued.
“But all that is OK with Mike Pence now. Fine with the big lie, fine with his life being in danger, he’s fine with voter suppression. He’s gambled his integrity away. Might as well put it all on red right now, right? Might as well ride it out. Ride it like a cowboy.”
And there it was …
The line about so-called “voter suppression” exposed Lemon’s rant for what it was really about: Pence’s insistence that America strengthen its election system.
“To restore public confidence in our elections, our leaders should uphold the Constitution, reject congressional Democrats’ plan to nationalize our elections, and get about the serious work of state-based reform that will protect the integrity of the vote for every American,” Pence wrote.
“The American people expect us to ensure that every eligible citizen is able to vote and also make sure that their vote is not stolen or diluted through errors, mistakes, or outright fraud. Every citizen deserves the freedom to support, oppose, criticize, or promote the candidates and causes they believe in. And most importantly, the American people must have the utmost confidence that every voice matters, and every vote counts—or democracy cannot survive,” Pence added.
The truth is that “voter suppression” is nothing but a pejorative used by Democrats to smear any and all GOP efforts to strengthen the integrity of America’s elections, including the demand by Republicans for sensible voter ID laws.
A Gallup poll conducted in 2016 found that 80 percent of Americans support voter ID laws. Of course, according to Lemon, this too is probably nothing but a “big lie” …
