‘CNN sucks!’: CPAC crowd heckles Acosta, demands to know why network won’t cover Cuomo’s scandals

CNN correspondent Jim Acosta was surrounded by attendees at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando on Friday as he attempted to do interviews, with several in the crowd breaking into a chant of “CNN sucks!”

In addition, at one point Acosta was confronted by David Marcus, a writer for The Federalist, who needled him  about his network’s diminished coverage of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s growing scandals into the coverup of COVID-related nursing home deaths and allegations of sexual harassment.

“Fake news. Jim Acosta is fake news,” one man said in a clip tweeted by Bloomberg News’ William Turton, who also tweeted a clip of a crowd repeatedly chanting, “CNN sucks!”

Meanwhile, Marcus tweeted a video of his confrontation with Acosta which began by him interrupting the CNN correspondent as he conducted an interview.

“I chatted with American hero @Acosta about CNN’s coverage of Emperor Cuomo,” Marcus, who reports from New York City, wrote in a post accompanied by a video of his interaction with Acosta.

“Hey, hey, hey, Jim,” Marcus began. “Hey, Jim, I’m David Marcus from The Federalist; when are you guys going to start covering Cuomo?”

“Sorry, I’m conducting an interview,” Acosta responded.

“When are you going to start covering Cuomo?” Marcus pressed.

“We do,” the CNN correspondent replied.

“No, I’m asking you a serious question,” Marcus fired back.

“But, David, we do cover that; we have too,” Acosta insisted, going on to ask Marcus to hold his questions so he could finish his interview.

“He killed ten thousand people and is accused of sexual assault, and you guys want to talk about Ted Cruz. So when are you going to start covering Cuomo,” Marcus responded, referencing the recent dust-up involving the Texas senator’s trip to Mexico with his family as the state was suffering sub-freezing temps and blackouts.

“Sir, let me just finish this interview, and then I’ll talk to you, okay, if you don’t mind,” Acosta pleaded.

Marcus quickly responded, “No!”

Acosta went on to insist that his network is covering the scandals surrounding Cuomo as Marcus pushed back.

“Okay, we agree to disagree,” Acosta said.

“No, we don’t agree to disagree, you’re not covering Cuomo, well, what do you think about it, what do you think about Cuomo,” Marcus pressed further. “You have plenty to say about Trump, nothing to say about Cuomo?”

“I’m here to do a job,” Acosta said.

“Nothing, right? You have nothing to say about Andrew Cuomo, the emperor of New York and you have nothing to say,” Marcus continued. “Okay. Then we see it. We see it.”

Late last month New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office released a report indicating that Cuomo’s administration undercounted COVID nursing home deaths by at least 50 percent. That report was followed by admissions from top Cuomo aide Melissa DeRosa in a phone call with state Democrats that his office hid the actual number of deaths out of fears of a federal probe by the Trump administration.

And last week, Cuomo faced accusations from Lindsey Boylan, the former deputy secretary for economic development and special adviser to the governor, who alleged in a post on Medium that he had kissed and touched her without her consent, as well as made sexually suggestive comments.

“Let’s play strip poker,” he allegedly told her in October 2017 during a flight home from an event.
