‘Hold that tot!’ Hasbro backtracks after introducing ‘woke’ rendition of ‘Mr. Potato Head’

Progressivism now permeates every facet of society, where even “Mr. Potato Head” now walks among the woke. Or does he?

In the name of “equality and inclusion,” Hasbro announced “a 21st-century rebrand” of the popular toy, introducing a gender neutral line that dropped the “Mr.” from the brand name and logo — only to then confuse matters by declaring Mr. Potato Head “isn’t going anywhere!”

The toy conglomerate said in a press release that the new version is a “celebration of the many faces of families allowing kids to imagine and create their own Potato Head family with 2 large potato bodies, 1 small potato body, and 42 accessories. The possibilities to create your own families are endless with mixing and mashing all the parts and pieces.”

“Hasbro is making sure all feel welcome in the Potato Head world by officially dropping the Mr. from the Mr. Potato Head brand name and logo to promote gender equality and inclusion,” the company stated. “In the fall, the new Potato Family Pack ‘Create Your Potato Head Family’ will celebrate the many faces of families allowing kids to imagine and create their own Potato Head family.”

Hasbro confused matters later by posting the following tweet — presumably in response to the fallout over the initial announcement:

According to the company, the motivation behind the move was to “let kids decide the parents’ gender, rather than being told they are ‘Mr.’ and ‘Mrs.'”

This being in line with the progressive thought process that there are more than two genders — a thought process that characterizes the scientifically-supported reality of there being just male and female genders as “hate.”

According to the Associated Press, Hasbro “appears to want to have it both ways: expand the brand, while not killing off its most iconic characters, which appeared in the Toy Story films.”

In speaking to AP, Robert Passikoff, founder of marketing consultancy Brand Keys, suggested it was a marketing ploy for a product first introduced in 1952.

“They are looking to broaden the franchise,” Passikoff explained. “You take the focus of what is essentially one character and now allow it to be a platform for many characters.”

The LGBTQ advocacy group GLAAD “applauded the more inclusive Potato playset,” the news agency reported.

“Hasbro is helping kids to simply see toys as toys, which encourages them to be their authentic selves outside of the pressures of traditional gender norms,” Rich Ferraro, GLAAD’s chief communications officer, said in a statement.

The maneuver certainly resulted in a lot of online chatter — here’s a sampling of the responses from Twitter:
