Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly, a far-left Democrat with a history of smearing good people, lost his temper during a House Oversight Committee hearing Wednesday after Rep. Jim Jordan dared to defend the committee’s interrogee from Democrats’ smears.
That interrogee was Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, a Trump appointee who’d been incessantly lied about by Democrats and their media allies for the better part of a year.
Throughout the 2020 presidential election, Democrats and their media allies trotted out evidence-free conspiracy theories about how DeJoy was purposefully removing mailboxes (FALSE) and strangling the USPS (FALSE) to sabotage the election so that then-President Donald Trump could win reelection. It was all pure nonsense, of course.
When his chance to question DeJoy arrived Wednesday, Jordan tore into his Democrat colleagues for not only smearing the Postmaster General but for also inciting a mob that’d “protested” outside his home over the summer.
In response to this defense, Connolly snapped.

“You had protesters banging on pots and pans outside your house. You had 90 some people calling for you to resign. You were the worst guy on the planet,” Jordan said.
“It was an unfortunate set of circumstances for me, for my family, for the postal employees, for the postal board, [but] none of it was based in any type of fact. It was sensationalization,” the Postmaster General replied.
But Jordan also noted an odd discrepancy — namely that the Democrat rage against DeJoy is far more toned down now than it’d been over the summer, with only a few voices like that of Connolly still obsessed with attacking him.
“What may have happened between [the summer] and Feb. 24th, 2021, that would change the attitude of Democrats?” he asked DeJoy.
The Postmaster General responded by admitting that an election happened.
“We had an election. It was all a charade. Don’t take my word for it. The Wall Street Journal called it a ‘giant conspiracy.’ It was all part of the predicate for laying the groundwork for the mail-in balloting and all the chaos and confusion the Democrats wanted,” Jordan replied.
The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board penned multiple columns in August excoriating Democrats for their “conspiratorial spin” on what was actually happening with the USPS, which was that it was understaffed and losing money, in large part because of the COVID crisis.
“How long before Rep. Adam Schiff says it’s another Russia-Donald Trump conspiracy to steal the election?” the Journal sarcastically asked at the time.
After Jordan finished defending DeJoy, Connolly rushed forth to unironically attack him for allegedly “gaslighting.”
“All the gaslighting that we just heard does not change facts,” he bellowed.
He then turned his attention to Democrat Party ally Mark Dimondstein, the president of the American Postal Workers Union.
“Mr. Dimondstein, am I making this up, as Mr. Jordan apparently would have you believe, that the president of the United States last summer, Donald J. Trump publicly said voting by mail would lead to massive fraud. Did he say that, or am I imagining that, Mr. Dimondstein?” he said.
“It was Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, who was planting the idea, aided and abetted, by disruptive changes proposed by a new Postmaster General and a compliant board of governors that actually eroded public confidence in the ability to vote by mail. That wasn’t a Democratic narrative; that was a Republican narrative.”
Connolly angrily added, “I didn’t vote to overturn an election, and I will not be lectured by people who did about partisanship.”
His weak rebuttal went viral among leftists who seem to think he was dropping some sort of truth bomb.

Their beloved hero seems to believe that Trump’s decision to warn of the risks linked to mail-in balloting is somehow equivalent to — or rather worse than — Democrats conjuring up conspiracy theories out of thin air to smear DeJoy.
Yet in August, David B. Rivkin Jr. and Lee A. Casey, both former Reagan and George H.W. Bush administration officials, made it clear in an op-ed for the Journal that the president’s concerns about mail-in balloting were completely valid.
“One of America’s greatest constitutional imperatives is the smooth and timely transition of power from one duly elected president to the next. That is now in doubt not because of the absurd notion that President Trump will refuse to leave office on Jan. 20 if the voters reject him on Nov. 3, but because the push for mail-in voting may overload the system, making an orderly election impossible,” the duo warned.
