Hot mic: Romney tells Kyrsten Sinema wearing her sassy t-shirt to work is ‘breaking the internet’

Relatively moderate Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, one of a handful of Democrats helping keep the filibuster intact, reportedly broke the internet while sending what appeared to be a clear-cut message to her Democrat peers.

What happened was that Sinema was spotted on the Senate floor Tuesday wearing a full-sleeve pink shirt with the words “Dangerous Creature” emblazoned on it. It’s believed it was her way of telling her fellow Democrats that she won’t be bullied by them.

It was such a big deal that Utah Sen. Mitt Romney, a Republican, made it a point to approach Sinema during a vote on whether to confirm Linda Thomas-Greenfield as the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, just to tell her, “You’re breaking the internet.”

To which she replied by holding up her hands and exclaiming, “Good!” She then turned back to the guy she’d been speaking with.

Romney wasn’t technically wrong. Sinema’s shirt did go mega viral on Twitter, though not in a positive way.

They’re mad at her and West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin for refusing to join other Democrats in eliminating the filibuster, a move that would allow the Democrat Party to flood the nation with the most radical policies seen in American history.

It’s not that they necessarily oppose the legislation, but rather that they recognize that the filibuster exists for a valid reason — to prevent a party that only boasts slight majority control from acting as if controls the entire Senate.

Because of Sinema and Manchin’s principled opposition to removing the filibuster, however, they now face incessant attacks, smears and threats of a primary challenge from the Democrat Party.

But according to Laurie Roberts, a columnist with Sinema’s home state paper, The Arizona Republic, Democrats better check themselves before they wreck themselves, especially in light of the clear-cut message the senator just sent them.

“Leave it to Sen. Kyrsten Sinema to issue a warning to Democrats and to do so with style. Arizona’s senior senator showed up on Tuesday to preside over the Senate wearing not the usual navy blue blah but a hot-pink sweater proclaiming, ‘Dangerous Creature,’” Roberts argues.

“That she is, to the progressives who expect her to get in line and support including a $15 minimum wage by 2025 in a bill that’s supposed to offer short-term COVID-19 relief. And to President Joe Biden, who will need her vote if he is to pass immigration reform, or much of anything, in the next two years,” Roberts added.

What are Democrats to do? Well, they’d like to primary her, but they’d be wise to reconsider, according to Roberts.

“Sure, kill her off in the 2024 primary and watch as Republicans regain the seat. Sinema knows that. And on Tuesday, she responded to her Democratic critics, speaking volumes without uttering a single word,” she said.

“Oh yeah, she’s a dangerous creature, all right, and in a 50-50 Senate one that Democrats try to strong-arm at their own peril. Like it or not, as Sinema goes right now, so goes the Senate,” she added.

And like it or not, but Sinema’s message did resonate with some people — certainly enough that, according to the manufacturer of her shirt, it’s now sold out:
