The soft-spoken, lifelong liberal who revealed the “toxic” political correctness ideology run amuck at Smith College has decided to quit her job and pursue remedies in court. In a letter of resignation, she admitted that the difficult decision comes because the allegedly “racially hostile environment” at the private liberal arts educational institution has become untenable.
In a series of informative YouTube videos (plus some discussions on other platforms, including a brief, November 2020 appearance on “Tucker Carlson Tonight”), non-faculty employee Jodi Shaw called attention to the anti-free-speech, critical race theory agenda – or the equivalent social justice indoctrination – that permeates the western Massachusetts campus.
Shaw previously explained that things apparently started going off the rails there, in terms of administration-promoting political correctness, after a purported racial incident in July 2018 even though a thorough investigation subsequently found it was free of any racial bias.
In a heartfelt video in which she expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support that she has been receiving, Shaw explained that while she is stepping down from her position as student support coordinator in the Department of Residence Life, she is taking it to the next level.

“More importantly, I retained the right to file a legal claim in a U.S. court of law against Smith College, and that’s what I intend to do…we’re gonna take Smith College to court, and we’re gonna get the legal precedent, and we’re going to establish once and for all that you cannot treat people differently in the workplace based on their skin color,” she said.
“You cannot subject people to trainings where you are telling that them they are bad or shaming them, rather, because they don’t do something you expect them to do based on their skin color…that’s why we need to take this to court,” Shaw added.
In a lengthy resignation letter to Smith College President Kathleen McCartney, which ex-New York Times editorial writer Bari Weiss (who fled the Times over woke bullying) posted to her Substack, Shaw — herself a Smith alum –wrote, in part:
“This has not been an easy decision, as I now face a deeply uncertain future. As a divorced mother of two, the economic uncertainty brought about by this resignation will impact my children as well. But I have no choice.
“The racially hostile environment that the college has subjected me to for the past two and a half years has left me physically and mentally debilitated. I can no longer work in this environment, nor can I remain silent about a matter so central to basic human dignity and freedom….,” Shaw explained.
“Under the guise of racial progress, Smith College has created a racially hostile environment in which individual acts of discrimination and hostility flourish. In this environment, people’s worth as human beings, and the degree to which they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, is determined by the color of their skin.
“It is an environment in which dissenting from the new critical race orthodoxy — or even failing to swear fealty to it like some kind of McCarthy-era loyalty oath — is grounds for public humiliation and professional retaliation…What passes for ‘progressive’ today at Smith and at so many other institutions is regressive,” she continued.

Shaw noted that a internal hostile work environment complaint at the racially obsessed school turned out to be, at best, counterproductive and allegedly exposed her to workplace retaliation. Shaw also asserted that many faculty and staff at Smith College shared her concerns, but are “terrified” to go public out of concern for their job status.
Even though her annual salary is less than what Smith charges per year in student tuition, Shaw turned down a settlement with the big picture in mind.
“My need to tell the truth — and to be the kind of woman Smith taught me to be — makes it impossible for me to accept financial security at the expense of remaining silent about something I know is wrong. My children’s future, and indeed, our collective future as a free nation, depends on people having the courage to stand up to this dangerous and divisive ideology, no matter the cost,” she explained.
As BPR has underscored, collective guilt or guilt by association has never been part of the American tradition. Moreover, the left has continually denounced racial profiling. Any form of racial discrimination in employment is illegal under a host of federal and state statutes and regulations, as is workplace retaliation.
Lockstep political indoctrination as a condition of employment is also prevalent in other industries, including the entertainment space.

As an epilogue to the Shaw letter, Weiss asserts that “Any ideology that asks people to judge others based on their skin color is wrong. Any ideology that asks us to reduce ourselves and others to racial stereotypes is wrong. Any ideology that treats dissent as evidence of bigotry is wrong. Any ideology that denies our common humanity is wrong. You should say so. Just like Jodi Shaw has.”
A GoFundMe page — which already raised $200,000-plus — was originally set up for Jodi Shaw, but is now “on hold.” The page indicates that any funds in excess of $150,000 will go to the legal expenses of others who find themselves in the same situation as Shaw.
Hey everyone GoFundMe has placed my fundraiser under review and there is now a hold on *all* funds. I fear it is for ideological reasons. If so, it shows what we are up against. For now, please donate through my PayPal. https://t.co/ChUk4GVJtL pic.twitter.com/zFcGmTxQnD
