Trump to keynote CPAC, expected to hit Biden on immigration in first post-White House speech

Signifying that he will continue to play a major role in the Republican Party, former President Donald Trump is set to deliver the keynote address at the upcoming Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Fla.

Trump’s speech, his first formal public appearance since exiting the White House last month, is scheduled for February 28, the last day of the event. In what will undoubtedly constitute must see TV, the speech presumably will provide more specificity about Trump’s post-presidency intentions.

“Trump’s speech will focus on ‘the future of the Republican Party and the conservative movement,” the New York Post reported, citing a source close to Trump. It is anticipated that Biden’s “disastrous amnesty and borders policies” will also come under scrutiny.

In sharp contrast to the Trump’s administration’s law-and-order approach, Biden has essentially thrown open the southern border, including, among other things, bringing back catch and release, reversing the remain in Mexico policy for asylum seekers, pausing deportations, and halting construction on the border wall.

Biden and the Democrats are also pushing so-called immigration reform legislation that would grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.

Biden and his handlers have taken various other measures to substantially dilute former President Trump’s America First agenda.

CPAC usually takes place in Maryland in suburban D.C., but owing to COVID-related restrictions, organizers moved it to the Hyatt Regency in Orlando in the open-for-business state of Florida.

Upon his acquittal in impeachment 2.0, Trump issued a statement in which he said, “Our historic, patriotic and beautiful movement to Make America Great Again has only just begun. In the months ahead I have much to share with you, and I look forward to continuing our incredible journey together to achieve American greatness for all of our people. There has never been anything like it!”

Despite or because he has feuded with the Republican establishment figures such as Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, the former POTUS who won nearly 75 million votes in Election 2020 is positioning himself as a kingmaker in the GOP.

“Trump will soon begin vetting candidates at Mar-a-Lago who are eager to fulfill his promise to exact vengeance upon incumbent Republicans who’ve scorned him, and to ensure every open GOP seat in the 2022 midterms has a MAGA-approved contender vying for it,” Politico reported.

It remains to be seen if Trump will try to recapture the White House in 2024 or even allude to it during his CPAC presentation. Other GOP office-holders with a national profile on the CPAC speakers list include Fla. Gov. Ron DeSantis, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, and Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri, along with many other luminaries from the conservative movement.

Trump has been a staple at CPAC for many years. CPAC, moreover, has often been regarded as a launching pad for a presidential bid.
