Protect Our Police PAC exclusively committed to putting pro-police candidates in public office

A noted political action committee formed to support state and municipal candidates who strongly back police is gaining prominence amid rising calls on the left to defund local departments.

“Protect Our Police PAC is the only national organization exclusively committed to electing Pro-Police political candidates to public office across the United States of America,” the organization says on its website.

The PAC, which was founded by retired officers, “helps recruit and elect candidates that will never turn their backs on our Police Officers and other first responders on the front line,” the site further notes.

Specifically, POP seeks to financially support local candidates for mayor, district and prosecuting attorney, and those for city council posts. The PAC will also support statewide candidates at all levels from governor down to treasurer, as well as candidates for state legislatures and judgeships.

The organization seeks to counter a rise in anti-police rhetoric and attitudes among a growing number of local and state leaders as well as left-leaning political pundits and media outlets.

“As a retired police officer, I’m alarmed at what I’ve seen happen over the last few years. What at first felt like a war on police has turned into a complete war on law and order,” the organization’s president, Nick Gerace, told BizPac Review.

“The mainstream media, many politicians and radicals like Antifa have successfully made cops the enemy in the eyes of many Americans — and have even started to turn people against the basic idea of locking up the bad guys,” Gerace, a former Philadelphia police officer, added. It has to stop and that’s why I founded Protect Our Police PAC. We are electing pro-police leaders who will stand with police officers and also make sure that the law is being enforced. Violent protests that hold cities hostage should not be tolerated. Murderers and criminals who terrorize communities with gun violence should be put in prison.”

The PAC’s website further explains the organization’s mission.

“We will also launch awareness and education campaigns with positive impact stories about police in the community to combat the anti-Police agenda, calls to defund and disband Police departments, and toxic rhetoric and headlines that have dominated the news cycle over the last decade,” the group says, adding that already “thousands” of donors from all 50 states have contributed.

In recent years, left-wing candidates for district attorney, prosecutor, mayor, and city council who were backed by billionaire George Soros and other liberal groups have increasingly won elections and brought with them anti-police, anti-law enforcement policies some experts say have led to substantial increases in crime.

In Philadelphia, for instance, Soros-backed DA Larry Krasner, a former defense attorney who had never prosecuted a case before his election in 2017, has been frank about his desire to deemphasize many crimes while rejecting harsher punishments for repeat offenders.

“They’ll list all of the arrests that they’ve had, all the contacts they’ve had as if what they’re doing is they’re explaining that these are people of terrible character and that explains this phenomenon. ‘And we’ll all be safe if we just lock up these people of terrible character forever,’” he told an NBC News podcast in July, as riots rocked his city and many others following the George Floyd incident in May.

“But what they’re not saying is this system has engaged this person, arrested this person 15 times, convicted them seven times, put them in jail four times, and nothing worked. It all failed. They’re not owning that,” he added. “So it is obvious to me that we have needed to go a different direction for a very long time. It ain’t working.”

One area Krasner has focused on is the diversion of illegal gun possession cases from charges into rehabilitation programs. The result has been telling: Rising gun-related crime.

Other cities where Soros-backed DAs and other officials have been implementing soft-on-crime reforms while calling for defunding police departments has had a devastating impact on officer confidence.

“Morale in the different departments across the country is terrible,” New York-based Sergeants Benevolent Association Vincent Vallelong said in September.

“We just feel abandoned,” added Washington, DC-based International Union of Police Associations Dennis Slocumb.”

Gerace understands exactly where those officers are coming from.

“Police officers who wake up to do their job of keeping us safe should again be respected,” Gerace added. “I always think back to the period right after 9/11 when our country came together and stood behind law enforcement and military, and while I never want our country to face another tragedy like that day in 2001, I do hope to see a day when the respect of the profession returns to the mainstream.

“The liberal media, radical politicians, and billionaires like George Soros who want to defund the police and wreck our country don’t speak for all Americans,” he said.
