For some inexplicable reason, the winter storm ravaging Texas has inspired members of the left to screech and gloat about coronavirus face masks …
Over on MSNBC, for instance, left-wing commentator Chuck Todd suggested Tuesday that the winter storm that’s reportedly killed at least 28 people is a good thing in a way because it might inspire Texas residents to don face masks.
“Extreme winter weather slamming more than half the country. It’s killed more than 28 people across the southeast. In Texas, the state power grid has overloaded. It’s left at least four million people to face historically low temperatures without electricity and often without heat,” the MSNBC host said while speaking with a reporter who was reporting live from Dallas.
He then added, “The only upside here is I assume the cold weather motivates people to wear a mask, because it’s one extra layer on your face.”
Was that supposed to be funny?
Listen:
His callous attitude toward people suffering in a red state isn’t an anomaly. Twitter is brimming with leftists who’ve been gleefully and condescendingly celebrating the suffering of red state residents as if it’s a win for humanity.

No offense but Texas freezing with no power is exactly what I want to happen to a state with no mask mandate and people who say All Lives Matter

Texas was kicking and screaming about masks and seceding and refusing to take COVID serious. The weather dropped to the teens and they immediately want sympathy and federal assistance. Nah, fuck off

People in Texas- Fuck masks, fuck staying home, this is Merica I’ll do what I want
Winter storm- Alright you dumbasses, have a little Antarctica. Bet you keep your stupid asses home now— Stephanie Jolley (@Jolleybunch) February 16, 2021
I see what you’re doing Mother Nature. 😒
People: we don’t need to stay home or wear our masks. Fuck Covid!
Mother Nature: Snow and Ice!! Lots of it, everywhere!! Even Texas!!

Mother Nature is taken her revenge out on Texas because they refuse to wear masks and continue to support X Pres. Trump. She has such a karma sense of humor.
Rudy your a disgrace as an American!

The state that refuses to wear masks also refused to winterize their infrastructure? Fucking color me surprised. Idk why they’re complaining so much though, 99% survival rate for snow storms! Winter in Texas is a government hoax.

Texas has a whole lotta racists that don’t listen to science because they believe it will take away their rights & liberties.
I mean they give no two f%&ks about wearing masks and COVID… So, f&%k ’em pic.twitter.com/PHpZ1Hs8b7

It’s not clear what coronavirus masks have to do with a winter storm.
For one, Texas does, in fact, have a mask mandate that’s been operational since the summer. And second, according to data from Becker’s Hospital Review, Texas’ coronavirus death rate is 143 per million, which is significantly lower than the 234, 225, 220 death rates of New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts, respectively.
FYI, New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts are all blue states …
Yet none of these facts seem to matter …
After Todd finished making his little joke, reporter Morgan Chesky provided a sobering account of the hell that some Texas residents are having to endure right now.
“It’s bad, Chuck,” he began in a strong rebuttal to Todd’s giddiness.
“Right now those numbers coming from the state aren’t just four million people. That’s four million households across the state of Texas that are without power. And that’s upwards of about 10 million people in this state that are now going on two plus days now in sub-freezing temperatures,” he continued.
He then spoke about one resident, Steve Rivera, who had to relocate his wife to the neighbor’s house across the street because the neighbor has a fireplace.
“Steve doesn’t. You can see that firewood piled up in the front yard there. The reason he had to do that is because his wife is in a wheelchair and diabetic, and she’s unable to stay warm in their house. They have had three hours of power in the last three days, and right now that thermostat is reading in the high 30s,” Chesky said.
It’s reportedly like this all over Dallas:

According to Fox News host Tucker Carlson, the true culprit behind the fiasco in Texas isn’t a lack of mask wearing or Mother Nature’s wrath, but rather the state’s decision to prioritize renewable energy over traditional energy.
He explained Monday on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” that Texas had long been known for its mass fossil fuel/natural gas reserves and production, but that increasingly over the past several years, the state began building wind farms that now account for roughly a quarter of all of its energy production.
But when the wind farms failed under extremely cold conditions, it left Texans with no other reliable source of energy, leading to blackouts that put residents’ lives at risk.

“Frozen wind turbines have caused almost half of Texas’s wind generation capacity to go offline in the midst of an ‘unprecedented storm’. … Wind turbines accounted for almost a quarter of Texas’s energy in 2020, making it the second-largest power source after natural gas,” The Independent confirmed Tuesday.
