Tucker goes off on rolling blackouts: ‘Running out of energy in Texas is like starving to death at the grocery store’

Fox News host Tucker Carlson opened his Monday evening program riffing on the so-called “Green New Deal” pushed by political elites as he reported on mass power outages in Texas amid record cold temperatures that caused windmills to freeze and the state’s grid to fail.

“The good news is all that alternative energy seems to have had a remarkable effect on the climate, as intended,” Carlson began. “Last night, parts of Texas got to temperatures that we see in Alaska — in fact, they were the same as they were in Alaska.”

“So global warming is no longer a pressing concern in Houston, we’ve solved that problem,” the host added mockingly. “The bad news is, they don’t have electricity. The windmills froze so the power grid failed.”

Carlson went on to note that “millions” of Texans were left facing freezing and near-zero temperatures as infrastructure including water purification centers and traffic lights became inoperable. Also, the power failures negatively impacted hospitals, schools, and other vital services.

“Some in Texas almost certainly did freeze to death. That’s what happens when it gets that cold,” Carlson continued, suggesting that others likely died from carbon monoxide poisoning while trying to stay warm using vehicles, barbecue grills, and fuel-burning heaters.

“When the power goes out, even advanced societies turn primitive. People die,” Carlson said, adding that “rolling blackouts” have become commonplace in other “first-world states,” especially California.

“But in Texas? Who saw that coming? And not just because Texas is mostly Republican,” said the host.

He went on to explain that the Lone Star State has long been known for its mass reserves and production of fossil fuel oil and natural gas, but that increasingly over the past several years, Texas built massive wind farms in the western portion of the state that currently accounts for about one-quarter of all energy production.

But when they failed under extremely cold conditions, it left Texans with no other reliable source of energy, leading to blackouts that put residents’ lives at risk.

“Texas is an oil-and-gas state, famously,” Carlson said. “Running out of energy in Texas is like starving to death at the grocery store. You can only do it on purpose. And Texas did.”

Carlson then accused state politicians of making the “fashionable” decision to rely heavily on renewable energy sources whose technologies are still not advanced enough to make them reliable alternatives to fossil fuels, of which Texas has in abundance.

Wind and solar power, he said, are often rendered ineffective during certain weather conditions such as unexpectedly cold temperatures, snow, or a lack of sunlight.

“Local politicians were pleased” by the amount of energy produced by wind farms, said Carlson. “They bragged about it like there was something virtuous about destroying the landscape and degrading the power grid.”

“It was all working great until it got cold outside. The windmills failed like the silly fashion accessories they are, and people in Texas died. A lot more of them than died at the Capitol January 6” during the riot,” Carlson continued.

The host assured viewers he wasn’t “beating up” on Texas, praising it as “a great state.” Rather, he said, what happened there is a prelude to what is coming for the rest of the country under the Biden administration’s expected push for ‘Green New Deal’ energy alternatives.

“What do they mean for you?” Carlson said. “They mean higher energy prices for starters — gas is already up, in case you haven’t noticed, electricity will follow.”

While higher energy costs hurt the nation’s poorest Americans most, mass use of ‘green’ energy “inevitably means blackouts,” said the host.
