Lindsey Graham says VP Harris impeachment possible if GOP retakes House

In a wide-ranging interview on “Fox News Sunday,” U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) gave some credence to the speculation that Lara Trump will run for U.S. Senate from North Carolina for the seat being vacated by Richard Burr, one of seven Republicans who voted on Saturday to impeach President Trump.

Graham, who often ping-pongs from MAGA to RINO, also warned that Kamala Harris could be subject to impeachment based on the precedent set by the Democrat-controlled U.S. House of Representatives.

“The biggest winner, I think, of this whole impeachment trial is Lara Trump,” Graham said.

“My dear friend Richard Burr, who I like and have been friends to a long time, just made Lara Trump almost a certain a nominee for the Senate seat in North Carolina to replace him if she runs. I will certainly be behind her, because I think she represents the future of the Republican Party,” Graham asserted in the news-making discussion embedded below in two parts.

Lara Trump and husband Eric are the only members of former President Trump’s immediately family that have not, as yet anyway, relocated to Florida.

Lara was born in Wilmington, N.C., is a graduate of North Carolina State University, and an ex-TV producer, and was one of the president’s most effective surrogates on the campaign trail.

After the impeachment vote, Burr released an odd statement that acknowledged that the impeachment trial was unconstitutional because the Senate has no jurisdiction over a former federal official.

The statement, in part, explained that “When this process started, I believed that it was unconstitutional to impeach a president who was no longer in office. I still believe that to be the case. However, the Senate is an institution based on precedent, and given that the majority in the Senate voted to proceed with this trial, the question of constitutionality is now established precedent… The evidence is compelling that President Trump is guilty of inciting an insurrection against a coequal branch of government and that the charge rises to the level of high Crimes and Misdemeanors. Therefore, I have voted to convict.”

When the Republicans held the majority, Burr chaired the perhaps misnamed Senate Intelligence Committee, but many believed that he functioned as an absentee landlord, for whatever reason letting the Democrats run the show and continue to push the fake Russian collusion narrative.

In January 2021, the U.S. Department of Justice closed an investigation without charges of alleged insider trading in connection with Burr’s stock sales early in the COVID-19 pandemic.

As far as Biden’s VP is concerned, Graham told Fox News Channel anchor Chris Wallace in the same interview that “if you use this model, I don’t know how Kamala Harris doesn’t get impeached if the Republicans take over the House, because she actually bailed out rioters, and one of the rioters went back to the streets, and broke somebody’s head open.

“So we’ve opened Pandora’s Box here, and I’m sad for the country.”

Sen. Graham also expressed disagreement with the Trump criticism leveled by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who was U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in the Trump administration.

Graham implied that McConnell’s condemnation will make it harder for the GOP to recapture the U.S. Senate in 2022 and stop Biden’s radical agenda.

“We need to unite the party,” he said. “Trump-plus is the way back in 2022….We can’t do that without Donald Trump, so he’s ready to hit the trail, and I’m ready to work with him…the Trump movement is alive and well.”

“I think [McConnell’s] speech is an outlier regarding how Republicans feel about all this,” Graham added. “I felt the impeachment trial was not only unconstitutional. I condemned what happened on January 6th, but the process they used to impeach this president was an affront to rule of law.”

“All I can say is that the most potent force in the Republican Party is President Trump…the president is a handful, and what happened on January 6 was terrible for the country, but he’s not singularly to blame. Democrats have sat on the sidelines and watched the country burn down for a year and a half and not said a damn word, and most Republicans are tired of the hypocrisy.”

Graham insisted that Trump was engaging in politically protected speech and did not engage in any incitement, “although his behavior after the election was over the top.”

Graham called for a 911-style commission to find out, among other things, what congressional officials, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi, knew about potential threats to the Capitol prior to the riot. He also claimed that there was “a pre-planned element to the attack” that was unrelated to Trump’s speech at the rally.

“Democrats, because they hate his guts, wanted to impeach him before they ever met him,” Sen. Graham asserted.
