“Crying” Jimmy Kimmel has failed again, this time in an attempt to make funny at the expense of comedian Jon Stewart.
The former host of “The Daily Show” recently began tweeting for the first time ever, and his first tweet was in defense of the Reddit users who drove GameStop’s price up in the stock market.
“This is bulls**t. The Redditors aren’t cheating, they’re joining a party Wall Street insiders have been enjoying for years,” he tweeted. “Don’t shut them down…maybe sue them for copyright infringement instead!! We’ve learned nothing from 2008.”
Kimmel responded on Thursday by seeming to align himself with the big money hedge funds on Wall Street, suggesting the Stewart tweet was from former President Donald Trump: “RealDonaldTrump? Is this you?”
We can only assume Kimmel was trying to be funny, but either way, the tweet went over like a lead balloon and he would soon delete it.
Not that social media users didn’t take notice — after all, the internet is forever.
On Friday’s show, Kimmel commented on the GameStop short squeeze controversy.
In addition to amateur investors being involved, he suggested “Russian disruptors” may have had a role in driving up the price of the GameStop stock — seems Kimmel may still be hung up on the debunked Russian collusion narrative, or he’s using it to marginalize the amateur investors.
“GameStop is a video game store and like a lot of businesses they’ve been struggling because of COVID but also because most people buy games online now,” Kimmel said. “And yet, despite a sharp decline in sales, over the past six months their stock price has grown by 8000 percent because a bunch of amateur investors, maybe even some Russian disruptors, who are part of a Reddit community called WallStreetBets, decided to buy a bunch of GameStop stock and drive the price up and screw over the hedge fund guys who had shorted the stock.”
“Now the hedge fund guys are upset and they’re pushing for an investigation and they’re like ‘we can’t have a bunch of randos from Reddit manipulating the market. That’s what we do. Stealing our things.”
He would be eviscerated for that assertion — Caution: Strong Language.

Jimmy Kimmel blaming the Russians for GameStop is just a preview of when he blames them for Girls on Trampolines.

As for Stewart, he was quickly embraced on Twitter, and is already at 1 million users.
He thanked social media users for the warm welcome, adding: “I promise to only use this app in a sporadic and ineffective manner.”
In another tweet that played on Trump’s history on the social media platform before Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey canceled him, Stewart joked: “So…if I do really well on here I get to be President, yes?”

Kimmel did not enjoy as cordial a reception online for his targeting of Stewart.
“Going from doing blackface Karl Malone bits to being a mouthpiece for Wall Street and the liberal establishment is honestly the worst career trajectory for any entertainer I’ve ever seen,” one social media user tweeted.

In a follow up that may have nailed it, the social media user tweeted, “Jimmy Kimmel really thought he had more respect from people than Jon Stewart has.”
Here’s a quick sampling of other responses to the story from Twitter:
That may be the first time the word “entertainer” has been used to describe Kimmel.
