According to Fox Business Network host Lou Dobbs, while Wednesday marked the end of Donald Trump’s presidency, it certainly didn’t mark the end of the Trump era.

Speaking Thursday on Fox Business Network’s Lou Dobbs Tonight, the unabashed Trump-supporting host opined that because of the Republican Party establishment’s treachery, it’s time for Trump’s desired Patriot Party to take over.

At issue, Dobbs began during a discussion with Rep. Matt Gaetz, is how Republicans have continually “sold out” the American people.

“[T]his party sold out to corporate America and Wall Street long ago, and … they have far too much influence with Republicans and the Republican Party leadership,” he said.

“And I’m talking about McConnell, I’m talking about McCarthy and before him Paul Ryan. They sold out working men and women in this country just like the Democrats have, and President Trump changed all of it.”

While Gaetz is one Republican who hasn’t sold out, the host continued, he’s a rare breed.

“You have been a terrific defender of the president, the America First policies, and advocate for those policies. Not enough of your colleagues in the House have done so,” he said.

And that’s why, Dobbs added, the time for the Patriot Party’s emergence is NOW.

We’re at a pivotal moment in history. I really believe the Patriot Party is about to become a reality. Not as a possibility — it’s a real likelihood. I think right now when you see Mitch McConnell behave as he did, why in the world would any Republican stay in the party?” he said.

Reports about a potential Patriot Party first emerged Tuesday.

“President Trump has talked in recent days with associates about forming a new political party, according to people familiar with the matter, an effort to exert continued influence after he leaves the White House,” The Wall Street Journal revealed.

“Mr. Trump discussed the matter with several aides and other people close to him last week, the people said. The president said he would want to call the new party the ‘Patriot Party,’ the people said.”

Dobbs immediately latched on to the idea.

“Many are hoping that he will do something very much akin to that, because his influence could be positive, and it could be broad and powerful across the body politic. President Trump saying he would like to name that party if he, indeed, does create it the Patriot Party. Personally, I think that’s got a great ring to it, don’t you?” he said during the Wednesday broadcast of his FBN show.

Would such a party even have a chance of making a dent in the political realm, though? Well, if nothing else, it helps that the party actually already exists.

“Organizers for the Patriot Party, who have been meeting for about a year with political action committees registered in five states, were surprised when they heard former President Trump might start a political party by the same name,” Sinclair Broad Group noted in a report Thursday.

“Search-traffic for the Patriot Party shot up in recent days, following the Wall Street Journal’s report that Trump has discussed starting a new ‘Patriot Party.’ Will Johnson, who serves as Idaho party chair and contributes to the party’s national efforts, says Trump has not contacted his group, but that Trump’s involvement definitely ‘would give us a boost.'”

According to Sinclair, the party already boasts “40 leaders nationwide” and at least one well-known figure, conservative Mindy Robinson, who’s intent on running for Congress in 2022 as a member of the Patriot Party.

All Trump would have to do is jump in and take the reins. Would he want to, though? He might were he to read the party’s website. The website contains a description of its mission, and its mission aligns closely with Trump’s own agenda.

The Patriot Party is the party of ending Corruption in American Politics. The days of the GOP & DNC career politicians are over. We are taking our country back one vote at a time and we need YOUR HELP,” the site reads.

We are an America First, Constitutional Republic, Party of the people. We believe in fiscal responsibility and term limits. Join us in our efforts nationwide to take back the Republic.”

That sounds about right. More importantly, it sounds like a complete repudiation of the Republican Party, which raises the question of why anyone would remain with the GOP when they could align with a party like the Patriot Party?

Continuing the discussion with Dobbs on FBN late Thursday, Gaetz asked basically the same question.

“You have to ask yourself if the Republican Party won’t fight to defend the legacy and the policies of Donald Trump if the Republican Party won’t unify against this sham impeachment, what much good is it?” he asked.

“If it won’t stand up for the American people, if it won’t stand up for trade deals that put our workers first, why should we all be expected to have loyalty to an institution that doesn’t seem to have loyalty at times to its dynamic leaders and to its members and to the people of the greatest nation that’s ever existed!?”

Good question.
