In two succinct tweets, Ric Grenell revealed the hypocrisy of the left for applauding the permanent suspension of President Trump’s Twitter account as well as for its new-found respect for the way the private sector does business.
“Celebrating censorship is so courageous,” the former acting director of national intelligence and U.S. ambassador to Germany under the 45th president wrote on the social media platform where conservative accounts have seen thousands of followers suddenly disappear.
When radio host Michelangelo Signorile chimed in that Twitter as a private company can do what it wants, Grenell dropped a truth bomb: “You told a private company and small business owner he had to make a cake for gay weddings. And today you defend @twitter for silencing people.”
Grenell may have been alluding to the famous legal controversy around Colorado’s Masterpiece Cakeshop whose Christian owner wound up in court for declining to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple.
This kind of scenario has also played out at other bakeries, florists, and other establishments around the country.

The press in America traditionally championed free speech, but that was then, and this is now. Journalism has morphed into a profession dominated by Democrat operatives with bylines, as Instapundit‘s Glenn Reynolds has often observed.
Along these lines, Grenell separately wrote on Twitter that “Media outlets and journalists sitting on the sidelines while Big Tech censors Conservatives is a new low. The media paradigm will have to completely shift. The first one to offer an alternative will be the industry leader for decades.”
Recent events have been responsible for the surging growth of free-speech alternative Parler, although Big Tech has responded. Amazon has kicked Parler off its web hosting service, and the app was removed from the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store.
