MSNBC Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough railed against President Donald Trump and his supporters Thursday following a breach of the U.S. Capitol Building, while also singling out authorities for appearing to be unprepared for the onslaught.
Labeling the breach “insurrection,” Scarborough launched into a tirade in which he accused the president of encouraging protesters to storm the Capitol before tearing into leaders in Washington, D.C., as well as law enforcement, and domestic security agencies.
“I think a lot of us have questions, a lot of questions, not just for Donald Trump — I’ve got no questions for Donald Trump, he’s an insurrectionist,” Scarborough said. “He should be arrested today, he should be sent to jail today…but I do wonder this morning, why they weren’t better prepared for this.”
Scarborough, his voice rising, specifically called out Capitol Police, the Metropolitan Police Department, the National Guard, and regional leaders for not being “better prepared for an invasion.”
The former Florida GOP lawmaker went on to explain how, as a congressman, Capitol Police would “scream” at him and others for seemingly minor infractions such as walking across a street without a “walk” signal.
But on Wednesday, he continued, some officers appeared to enable protesters by granting them access through barriers and “taking selfies” with them.
"People forced their way into the sanctums of American democracy with nothing more than flagpoles, riot shields and shoves.
Nobody stopped them — and some officers were captured on video appearing to stand back as rioters streamed inside." https://t.co/Wl7iepm4Ws

“Politely opening the door for terrorists who had scrawled on the door, ‘Murder the media?’” Scarborough continued. “And then letting the terrorists walk out of the same Capitol they had laid siege to and threaten the lives of members of the House and members of the Senate.”
“There has to be an investigation. How many of these Capitol Hill cops are members of Donald Trump’s cult?” He said. “How many?”
“It is a cult,” added co-host Mika Brzezinski, who later suggested that the crowds were not treated more harshly because most were white, to which Scarborough agreed.
“If these insurrectionists were black they would have been shot in the face,” he claimed. “And my God, if these insurrectionists were Muslim they would have been sniped from the top of buildings.”
“So I wanna know from Capitol Police,” Scarborough yelled. “What is it, just white people? Or is it just Donald Trump supporters? Why are you known as bada**ses around the Capitol but then Trump supporters come in and you open the f**king doors for them?”
“Oh, my God,” Brzezinski can be heard whispering in response to Scarborough’s vulgarities.
“You open the doors for them and let them breach the people’s house,” Scarborough screamed. “What is wrong with you? I also wanna know, are we a nation of laws or are we a nation of one man?”
Scarborough then falsely claimed that Trump “called for the insurrection against” the country, as well as presidential lawyer Rudy Giuliani and Donald Trump Jr.
He added that if all three are not arrested and “booked” for insurrection along with protesters who breached the Capitol “then we are no longer a nation of laws” and more violence will be forthcoming, citing the ongoing violence for the past several months in Portland where most rioters are never prosecuted.
To that point, Fox News contributor Dan Bongino also criticized the breach of the Capitol, but he added that the months of violence in the Oregon city — which included a month’s-worth of nightly attacks against a federal courthouse — have been characterized much differently by many of the same people and news outlets critical of what happened Wednesday in D.C.
“What we can’t get into is let the left intimidate us and say, ‘well, bringing up how we got here is whataboutism,’” Bongino said. “No, it isn’t whataboutism, it’s about asking you about principles that apply to both sides.”

After recounting how he and his wife were accosted and threatened by BLM and Antifa supporters following President Trump’s RNC acceptance speech they attended at the White House in August, Bongino mentioned the courthouse siege and asked, “Do you think that would have been allowed to happen if it had been, God forbid, a group of conservatives or libertarians?”
“You damn well know the answer is no. Those people would have been arrested and tried immediately,” he continued. “Why is that? Why was that allowed to continue for a month? And the answer is…because there isn’t one guiding set of principles in this country.”
