If only Attorney General Bill Barr took as much personal interest in allegations of voter fraud or the nefarious business dealings of Hunter Biden and how they may tie back to his father, Joe Biden, as he did the suicide of convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.
Turns out, Barr took the time to personally question the last inmate to share a cell with the billionaire before he died by what was officially ruled a suicide by hanging, a source told the Daily News.
Epstein was found dead early on August 10, 2019, at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in lower Manhattan, and the ensuing investigation would include a focus on his last cellmate, Efrain “Stone” Reyes, who had been transferred out of a cell they shared the day before his death.
The Daily News reported that Reyes’ niece and other sources said Reyes was moved to the privately-run Queens Detention Facility, which holds cooperating witnesses.

The source reportedly became close friends with Reyes while they were both held at the Queens jail facility — though the friend said Reyes sang like a canary.
“Barr wanted to know about what was going on in there. Barr told him, ‘I owe you a favor, thank you for telling us the truth,’ ” the source said.
“He said [Barr] was a good guy. Barr was nice about it,” he added. “He just wanted to know if [inmates] were being mistreated. What he believed happened. Just basically that. He told them everything. He cooperated with Barr.”
Epstein’s shocking death reflected poorly on the Justice Department and Barr was said to be “livid.”
In the weeks following the death, The New York Times reported Barr was personally overseeing four inquiries into Epstein’s suicide.

Mr. Epstein’s death prompted an unexpected challenge to Mr. Barr’s credibility. The Justice Department has faced accusations that it mishandled an earlier investigation into the financier by making a deal in 2008 that allowed Mr. Epstein to elude federal charges and serve prison time from his office.
In an email to The Daily News, Epstein’s attorney Reid Weingarten called the claim that Barr personally intervened a “real jaw dropper.”
“If in fact the attorney general personally interviewed Jeffrey’s prison drug-dealing roommate that would be a real jaw dropper … there are only a million levels between the a.g. And the FBI agent who should have done the interview (I am exaggerating but only by a little),” Weingarten wrote. “If it is true the question is why in the world was Barr so personally interested in what happened to my client?”
Reyes, 51 at the time, was released from the Queens Detention Facility in April after contracting COVID-19 in jail. He died in November at his mother’s Bronx apartment.
He was deeply troubled by Epstein’s death, according to the source who said Reyes was having “nightmares” about it.
“He thought if he would’ve stayed a little longer maybe he wouldn’t have did what he did. The whole time, he would tell [Epstein], ‘Don’t do that in the cell. I don’t need you doing that. Don’t need that on my conscience,’” the individual said.
