Mitch McConnell’s Louisville, Ky., home was vandalized early Saturday morning.
In response, McConnell described the defacement as a “radical tantrum” that takes a page from a “radical playbook.”
The words “weres [sic] my money” were spray-painted on the door, while “Mitch kills poor” was left on a front door window. The rest of the residence was left undamaged by the spelling-challenged messengers, and a police investigation is ongoing into the incident that cops say occurred around 5 a.m. No suspects have been identified so far.
The senator issued the following statement in response to the incident:
“I’ve spent my career fighting for the First Amendment and defending peaceful protest. I appreciate every Kentuckian who has engaged in the democratic process whether they agree with me or not. This is different. Vandalism and the politics of fear have no place in our society. My wife and I have never been intimidated by this toxic playbook. We just hope our neighbors in Louisville aren’t too inconvenienced by this radical tantrum.”
Later that day, a small group of peaceful demonstrators showed up outside the residence to protest the stimulus shortfall in a protest that activists had pre-planned for several weeks and was unrelated to the vandalism. “$600 is not even rent,” said one of the protesters at the scene.

McConnell has thus far blocked the stimulus payment increase and has also tried to link it to a repeal of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (the provision that prevents lawsuits against Big Tech platforms) and to the creation of a committee to probe election integrity.
The federal government is in the process of rolling out $600 stimulus checks to taxpayers. President Trump has repeatedly called for Congress to increase the payment to $2,000.
In general, public opinion does not seem to be on McConnell’s side at the moment given the nationwide economic challenges, even if his position might be justifiable on a macro level.

In a tweet, Andy Beshear, Kentucky’s Democrat governor, also condemned the actions of the vandals. “The vandalism to @senatemajldr McConnell’s home is unacceptable. While the First Amendment protects our freedom of speech, vandalism is reprehensible and never acceptable for any reason,” he wrote.
Like-minded vandals also visited the San Francisco home of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on New Year’s Day. The Democrat’s garage door was spray-painted with the words “$2K cancel rent,” and “we want everything.” The $2K wording was crossed out in reference to the failed effort to boost the stimulus to $2,000.
