The massively mustachioed star of the American Chopper reality TV show and various spin-off programs is moving from upstate New York to Florida and taking his Hudson-Valley-based Orange County Choppers custom-motorcycle business and employees with him.
Upon being asked by a TV interviewer whether the tax and politics differential in the two states might have played a role in the decision to permanently relocate, owner and familiar television presence Paul Teutul Sr. succinctly replied, “A lot. There’s more of a sense of freedom down there than New York, that’s for sure.”
A lifelong New Yorker, Teutul, 71, added that “At this stage of life, I’m looking for a change, and New York has changed drastically…it’s time to start a new chapter.”
As a practical matter, the motorbike builder acknowledged that “I think I have more of a fan base down there in Florida, and the riding [season] down there is nine months, maybe even ten. In New York, you have a short season, maybe three months or so. So the whole thing makes sense.”
Most of the big riding events already occur in Florida, he noted.
Although he has often vacationed in Palm Beach County, Teutul told Chris Best of Alabama’s WKRG News during a Zoom call that he is moving to the more rural Brooksville, Fla., in the Clearwater area.
Girlfriend Joan Kay explained that the new business location in Clearwater will include a retail store, a restaurant, a museum, and even a concert venue, with a Harley Davidson dealership nearby. She also praised Florida residents for being warm and welcoming.
“It’s really a great culture. People are truly all about sunshine, and having a good time, and being respectful…” she said.
In good news for reality fans, cameras will record new episodes of the show at the Florida venue in Pinellas County, the couple confirmed, which is not too far from Florida’s Orange County.
They implied that they weren’t able to find a suitable location there that matched the existing business name, however. “We just couldn’t nail it,” Kay remarked.

Paul Teutul, Jr., who has feuded with his dad on and off during the course of years of filming, won’t be making the Florida move, Teutul Sr. emphatically revealed.
Kay described the upcoming venture, which is scheduled to open in the spring of 2021, as a “rebirth” of Orange County Choppers. The company also plans to become involved in veterans’ charities in the Sunshine State because of the large population of ex-military members who live there.
Owing to factors such as high taxes, draconian coronavirus lockdown restrictions, crime, and excessive regulations, residents are fleeing Democrat-controlled New York, particularly the New York City area (as well as other blue precincts) to the point where the state may lose at least one congressional seat in the next census.

“[Teutul] also said that he thinks Florida is more prepared and poised to get past the devastating blow the COVID-19 pandemic has caused than New York,” WKRG asserted.
Parenthetically, Florida’s GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis has won praise for effectively balancing public health with the economic and psychological needs of his constituents during COVID-19, despite a hostile media narrative.
