With many Americans having to fight authorities for the right to make a living and skepticism over the effectiveness of another round of lockdowns running high, there is no shortage of stories of officials ignoring the restrictions they are pushing on others.
The latest high profile official being called out for hypocrisy is Dr. Deborah Birx, who responded to the COVID-19 surge by warning the country to limit Thanksgiving gatherings to “immediate households.”
Yet, Birx traveled to a vacation property off Delaware with three generations in her family from two households, the Associated Press reported. Her husband, a daughter, son-in-law and two young grandchildren were present.
Kathleen Flynn, whose brother is married to Birx’s daughter, who lives in the family’s Potomac house, told the AP that she made Birx’s travels known out of concern for her own parents — she also acknowledged family friction over the matter.

“She cavalierly violated her own guidance,” Flynn said of Dr. Birx.
The coordinator of the White House coronavirus response told the AP in a statement the trip was not due to the holiday but to winterize the property before an upcoming sale.
“I did not go to Delaware for the purpose of celebrating Thanksgiving,” Birx said in the release, though she did acknowledge her family shared a meal while in Delaware.
After the trip, Birx appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press” to continue warning people that everyone should avoid gatherings.
“We cannot go into the holiday season, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, with the same kind of attitude, that those gatherings don’t apply to me,” she cautioned. “They apply to everybody.”

Dr. Angela Rasmussen, a virologist at the Georgetown Center for Global Health Science and Security, said Birx’s actions are disqualifying.
“To me this disqualifies her from any future government health position,” Rasmussen told the AP. “It’s a terrible message for someone in public health to be sending to the American people.”
Birx is the latest official to face scrutiny for their hypocritical behavior.
California’s Democratic Gov. Gavin Newson drew considerable criticism for attending a birthday party of a well known lobbyist at the luxurious French Laundry restaurant in Napa.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, also a Democrat, had to alter his Thanksgiving plans after stating in a radio interview that his 89-year-old mother and two daughters were traveling to Albany to celebrate the holiday with him.
The Democratic mayor of Denver, Michael Hancock — picking up on a trend here? — was forced to apologize after he got busted traveling to Mississippi on Thanksgiving weekend after cautioning residents to stay home for the holiday.
Social media was in no mood for more hypocrisy, as seen from Steve Hilton, the host of Fox News’ “The Next Revolution,” who called Dr. Birx “yet another elitist Lockdown Hypocrite.”
