Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has been accused of perpetuating “COVID derangement” over a stunt she pulled this week in which she enlisted the help of Santa Clause to proselytize to children about her coronavirus rules and restrictions.
On Wednesday, the governor published a video that showed her teleconferencing with several groups of children from across the state.
As the video opened, Whitmer announced to the children that she had a “special guest” for them who she claimed has “been really following the rules and making sure that he stays safe and the elves stay safe.” That guest was, of course, Santa Clause.
After Santa introduced himself, Whitmer asked the children if they had questions for him. And surprise surprise, every one of the children were just magically itching to ask Santa Clause not about gifts or his “naughty-or-nice” list, but about the coronavirus.

“Santa, do you have to wear a mask?” the first questioner asked.
“When I’m in my workshop with all my elves, we all are masked up and social distancing,” Santa Clause replied.
The next questioners, three kids, touted their plan to leave cookies, carrots, and hand sanitizer out for Santa and his reindeer.
“That was a good suggestion!” Whitmer promptly responded.
The third set of questioners asked Santa Clause whether the coronavirus has infected anyone at the North Pole.
Not surprisingly, Santa responded by proselytizing some more.
“Everyone has been testing negative. We’re still getting tested. I think we’re so far up north that it might not be getting to us, but we’re not going to take any chances. We’re all going to mask up, we’re all going to wash our hands and we’re all going to stay six feet apart,” he said.
He then urged the kids to “do … what the governor is telling all the people of the great state of Michigan to do: social distance, wash your hands, and make sure you wear your mask when you’re outside your home.”
This provided Whitmer with the opening to jump back into the conversation and conclude the proselytization by basically telling the kids to cancel Christmas.
“Another way to stay safe during the holiday is to stay home but call your grandparents and your cousins and your family. It’s the safest way to tell the people you love how much you care about them. This year it has to look a little bit different so we can stay safe,” she said.
As of Friday morning, the video tweet was approaching a 200-percent ratio thanks to scathing criticism from parents who were displeased by Whitmer using the Christmas holidays to push “COVID derangement” on children.
They also accused the governor of having scripted the entire affair, because in what world do little children ask Santa — the SANTA — such questions!?
Look (*Language warning):
Whoa, I generally try to stay out of the COVID crazy fray publicly but I’m jumping in on this one. I can’t believe you and Santa presented COVID derangement symptoms in regards to Christmas. This stoops to a whole new level.

This is an incredible mix of foolishness, stupidity and brainwashing. So many kids are now living in fear of something from which they have little to no chance of even having symptoms, let alone dying. Let them be kids!!!

Why does Santa need to tell children to “follow the rules?” They don’t have control with the mitigation efforts, why use them as pawns? There is ZERO reason to tell children that Santa is “masked up” in his workshop. Let them be children, without the worries. Get a better Santa!

I would rather that Santa tell my kids Santa doesn’t exist, than the freaking governor having him say he and his elves are masked up & social distancing at the North Pole, & kids should leave out hand sanitizer so he doesn’t superspread the whole world. What the fuck is this??

Talk about indoctrination.

Those kids were coached on what to ask! I have a five year old granddaughter who would never think to ask “what can we do to keep people safe”!

I’m surprised you didn’t have one of the kids ask Santa how to file for unemployment, fill out a mail-in ballot or what his workshop is doing to reduce its carbon footprint.

Though a media darling for her willingness to lock her constituents down in perpetuity, Whitmer has developed a reputation for being a cold-hearted coronavirus tyrant over her eager willingness to shutter entire industries at a whim’s notice.
Even Fox News’ Judge Andrew Napolitano, a fairly moderate man who’s frequently critical of President Donald Trump, felt that Whitmer went way too far last spring.
Speaking on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight at the time, he slammed Whitmer for waging a war against a 77-year-old barber for the crime of reopening his business.
“The definition of a free state is one where the laws are written to uphold personal liberties. The definition of a police state is one where the laws are written, legitimately or not, to uphold what the government wants. We are not gradually, all of a sudden, in a period of six weeks, going from a free state, which is happening in all 50 states, to a police state,” he said.
“And the example you just cited in Michigan is violative, not just of Michigan law and the Michigan Constitution, but the United States Constitution as well. “She can’t take his livelihood away from him because he spoke out against [her]. That’s what the fascists did that we fought against in World War II.”

Whitmer eventually relented and slowly began reopening some businesses, including barbershops. Yet as of December, plenty of businesses still remained closed and bleeding money, including theaters, stadiums, arenas, skating rinks, bingo halls, arcades, restaurants (indoor dining), gyms (group fitness classes), and schools.
