If there’s anyone in America intimately aware of how ruthless the deep state can be, it would be Gen. Mike Flynn, who was tapped by then-President-elect Donald Trump to be his national security adviser.
Despite the retired Army lieutenant general’s 33 years of service to his country, he was set up by the FBI under disgraced former bureau director James Comey as part of the previous administration’s effort to unseat President Trump.
“The American people saved me. They saved my family and I,” Flynn said during an exclusive interview on American Thought Leaders, hosted by The Epoch Times’ Jan Jekielek. “If there’s something I’ll get emotional about, it’s that.”
“The deep state buried me six feet under the ground, wanted me to die,” he insisted.

The former Trump administration official said the American people gave him “the oxygen to survive, to get through this.”
“Somehow, somebody stuck a straw up through that — or a straw was allowed to be stuck up to the air, and I laid down there for four years breathing through that straw,” Flynn said. “But that straw became wider and wider and wider over the years because the American people came to my family’s aid.”
“I’ll tell that story someday,” he continued, “because that’s an amazing story about people that have nothing, and they’re willing to give me everything they have because they believed in me, they believed in my family, they believed in something that was bigger than what it is that we are about. And thank God they did.”
Flynn said he feels like he has a responsibility now.
“It’s hard to understand but I just feel like I have a responsibility to them, and I’m not going to let them down,” he explained.
Suggesting that in some way, he was given a “platform” to speak out.
“So if I’m given a platform which I think the American public have done that for me,” Fynn said, “I’m out here fighting because I do not want this country to go the way of the wolf, so to speak. I don’t want that to happen.”
As for his thoughts on the FBI, Flynn said over the years the upper-tier began acting “with arrogance in their attitude to other institutions in the government.
“Their sort of abrasiveness, cultural abrasiveness, and it permeated from the top,” he said, adding that there were a few “bad, bad apples—that had it out for me.”
An effort that “went all the way to the top,” Flynn said, before noting that one reason was that he began “helping out not only any candidate that was running against Hillary Clinton, but teaming up with Donald Trump.”
But there was also his public opposition to Obama’s Iranian nuclear deal.
“Because that was the single foreign policy initiative—disastrous initiative—that the Obama administration took on with the number one state sponsor of terrorism,” the general pointed out. “A country that was killing our men and women in uniform; in Afghanistan and Iraq, principally Iraq, and elsewhere around the world. So that was sort of check one.”
“And then there were other elements that then, I believe, began to really hone in on me,” he said. “And I think the spying on me went way, way past just the campaign.”

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
I’m crying. This man served his country as a true patriot, leader & with honor. This was the least we could do for him. Thank you for your service to this country @GenFlynn. I will be forever sorry for what happened to you. You did not deserve that. God bless you and your family.

@GenFlynn gave us all he had & then some, so it is only fitting we gave him back what we could. It’ll never be enough for what he’s gone through at the hands of selfish bureaucrats and judges. He is a special man.

I remember the exact moment I realized they were setting him up and felt compelled to support him like he was family. Thanks for your service.

The truth always goes from heart to heart, no matter how outrageous the story. Gen Flynn told the truth and we know that, we felt it in our hearts.

God bless him and your entire family. It’s an absolute travesty what your family has had to endure. I pray that justice is served.
