CNN host Chris Cuomo verbally assaulted GOP Rep. Ray LaMalfa (R-Calif.) for being one of 126 House Republicans who supported Texas’ lawsuit against four battleground states during a Friday evening segment.
Cuomo began the segment by claiming LaMalfa was the only GOP member contacted by the show that would agree to appear following the U.S. Supreme Court’s late-Friday decision to toss out the Texas suit that was enjoined by 18 other states for lack of standing.
The host began by pressing LaMalfa over whether he and the rest of the GOP House contingent would accept the high court’s decision as well as Democrat Joe Biden as president.
“The idea of accepting the Supreme Court’s decision, do you?” Cuomo asked.
“Well, certainly, this is a setback for the case that was being made by Texas, and you know, it really boils down to there’s a lot of things being said about it,” the California Republican said.
LaMalfa then explained that even in his own state of California, the Democrat super-majority pushed back on a gubernatorial attempt to declare, “by edict,” that elections would be conducted via all mail-in ballots.
“We’re gonna have to affirm that as a legislative process because that’s what the Constitution requires,” LaMalfa, who also noted that he used to be a state representative in California, added.
That is a similar situation, he continued, that occurred in states like Pennsylvania, where a state court allowed for a three-day extension to receiving mail-in ballots in violation of existing state law.
Cuomo dismissed LaMalfa’s explanation and then berated the Texas suit as lacking proper legal status to pursue.

“Litigation is about facts. You have no proof anything was done wrong. You mention Pennsylvania, from a lot of litigation, those laws were passed by the legislature, reviewed its own Supreme Court, their legislature never moved against it,” the host said. “You have to move past that phase, as we just heard from the highest court in the land, which is 6-3 conservative, three judges Trump put on there. Do you now accept that Biden is president-elect?”
“Well, we still don’t know what the intelligence folks have in there…” LaMalfa began.
“They don’t have anything,” Cuomo shot back.
“Come January 20th, if he’s got his hand on the Bible and doing that then I guess we’ll accept it at that point,” the California Republican said, adding that many people never accepted President Donald Trump’s election for four years “including your network.”
At that point, the exchange devolved into a series of absurd accusations and questions from Cuomo, who began with: “You got any proof that anything was done fraudulent in any election?”
“You know, I don’t have proof that men landed on the moon because I wasn’t there,” LaMalfa responded.
“Really?” Cuomo interjected before asking, “Do you believe the world is round?”
“Well, I think we’ve proven that,” said LaMalfa.
“Have you been all the way around it?” Cuomo fired back.
LaMalfa then noted he would “have to trust my colleagues” from states that are continuing to investigate claims of election fraud and other acts by poll workers in places like Detroit where workers placed boards over windows to block out observers.
Cuomo said that instance was “litigated” before adding, “Look, I’m giving you a chance to prove that you’re a man of honor and accept that this is a country of laws…”
“That’s the laws we’re talking about,” LaMalfa shot back, as the exchange got increasingly tense.
After cross-talk, Cuomo went on to lecture LaMalfa about “standing” regarding the Texas case, adding that no federal courts have acknowledged evidence of fraud.
Afterward, Cuomo went on to berate LaMalfa and Republicans in general for allegedly failing to pass new coronavirus relief, though House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democrats control the lower chamber.
Toward the end, Cuomo circled back to the Texas lawsuit, blasting the effort and states involved as filing a “frivolous” case.
