Explosives thrown at Michigan Trump supporter’s home described as political hate

A Detroit-area man who describes himself as an avid President Donald Trump backer is offering a $10,000 reward for information about a firebombing incident at his house that displays a Trump flag. As to the possible motivation for the targeting, “We’re thinking maybe because I’m a big Trump supporter. There was some talk about that…everybody has people that don’t like them, not to the extent of trying to blow my house up,” he said.

“I’m hoping that we can find out who this guy was, and what his motivation was, and get him locked up for what he did,” the man explained

The suspect or suspects who were allegedly spotted on a neighbor’s surveillance camera reportedly ran up and threw two explosive devices at the residence located in St. Clair Shores, Mich., early Saturday morning, blowing out the living room window and causing other serious, extensive damage including a hole in the floor and cracked parts of the ceiling.

Fortunately, the owner was watching TV in the upstairs bedroom with his girlfriend and were unharmed. Nearby residents thought a bomb had gone off in the area. When he rushed downstairs, smoke was billowing in the house.

The homeowner told Detroit TV station WDIV that “an explosion went off, and it sounded like a transformer from the power line, and another explosion went off, and it shook the house.” Luckily the house didn’t catch fire, and first responders arrived at the residence quickly.

“We were really scared. When you feel your house shake and explode, and smoke, and you don’t know what’s going on…,” he added about the ordeal.

Watch the news report aired by WDIV:

The St. Claire Shores police department released a statement about the incident:

“The male homeowner reported an explosive was thrown through his residence front window. St Clair Shores Police and Fire Department responded and observed damage to the front bay window and damage inside the residence. The residence surveillance camera captured a white male suspect throwing a suspected lit firework mortar at the residence. The suspect then returned to the two toned Ford F-150 pickup 2004-2014 body style. The residents were not injured.”

About the reward, the homeowner, who says he spotted a truck racing away from the scene, explained that “it’s worth it to me to find out who is trying to catch my house on fire and possibly kill me.”
