Austin Mayor Steve Adler busted lecturing residents to stay home… while on vacay in Cabo!

The Democrat mayor of Austin, Texas, urged residents of the city to “stay home” in a recorded video message last month as COVID-19 cases rose, but he did so while on vacation in Mexico.

The Nov. 9 video from Mayor Steve Adler was recorded while he was on vacation at a Mexican resort in Cabo San Lucas, according to KVUE’s Tony Plohetski, who has confirmed it.

In his message, Adler noted that while the city wasn’t yet in the “red” zone, coronavirus cases were nonetheless on the rise, both in Texas generally and across the United States. He went on to list hospitalization-rates and the daily death-toll, ahead of urging residents to avoid traveling.

“The most important message to get out to the community right now is that our numbers are increasing,” Adler said. “Everybody has to be aware of that and we need to stay home if you can.

“Do everything you can to try to keep the numbers down,” he added. “Now is not the time to relax.”

But he obviously was not taking his own advice, having traveled to Mexico — via private jet — where the message was recorded.

The Austin Statesman reported that Adler flew to the timeshare with eight others. He confirmed the trip to the paper.

“I regret this travel,” he said in a statement. “My fear is that this travel, even having happened during a safer period, could be used by some as justification for risky behavior. In hindsight, and even though it violated no order, it set a bad example for which I apologize.”

However, the night before Adler made his trip, he hosted his daughter’s wedding at a hotel in downtown Austin, which was attended by at least 20 guests. Adler said he spoke with the city’s interim health director before the wedding to get guidance on how to host it safely.

But at the time, Austin was under Stage Three COVID guidelines, which said that people should avoid gatherings of 10 or more people, regardless of mitigation efforts.

Adler’s hypocrisy is just the latest involving top elected leaders, many of whom are Democrats, ignoring their own mandates regarding the virus:

— In March, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio visited a local YMCA for a workout just ahead of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s order shuttering all of them in the state, as the virus pandemic spread. At the time, schools in the city had been shut down, social distancing had been ordered, and the city’s tens of thousands of restaurants were about to be shuttered as well.

“The Mayor’s actions today are inexcusable and reckless,” Rebecca Katz, long-time de Blasio confidant, said at the time.

— Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot defied her own lockdown orders to go to a salon for a hair appointment in early April. She defended her decision by insisting she is “the face of this city,” though she had also threatened to fine anyone who violated her stay-at-home order with a $500 fine.

Last month, as cases rose again in the city, Lightfoot issued another stay-at-home order ahead of Thanksgiving though she participated, mask-less, in a street celebration of Joe Biden’s alleged presidential victory.

— House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was caught violating San Francisco’s order that shuttered hair salons in August. She was seen on surveillance video at a hair salon, not wearing a mask. San Fran Mayor London Breed, a Democrat, blamed President Donald Trump.

— California Gov. Gavin Newsom was recently busted, attending an indoor meal with more than a dozen guests at a swanky French restaurant in violation of his own social distancing and indoor-dining restrictions. So was Breed.
