Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s pick as his national security adviser pushed the United States to assist in China’s economic rise, which has, in turn, fueled Beijing’s advancing military capabilities.
As noted by Fox News host Tucker Carlson during a segment on his program Tuesday, Jake Sullivan, an Obama administration figure who also signed on to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, has said that he believes what is good for China is also good for the U.S.
“I think that the Europeans do have to think very hard about taking a larger role in a project that the United States has been engaged in for some time, which is doing everything we can to both facilitate and encourage China’s economic rise and to support it, because a thriving China is good for Europe, it’s good for the United States, it’s good for Asia,” Sullivan said during a June 2017 Lowy Institute conference in a clip played by Carlson.
Afterward, Carlson brought on retired Marine Corps Lt. Col. Oliver North to discuss a new book his publishing company has just released that lays out how China has become the primary threat to U.S. national security.
“Instead of encouraging a rise in China, what they ought to be thinking about in the new administration, if they come to town, is conferring” with the book’s authors “because they know what it’s like” because “they helped bring down the ‘Evil Empire,’” said North, a nickname given to the Soviet Union by his former boss, President Ronald Reagan.
The book, “America’s #1 Adversary and What We Must Do About it Now,” was written by John Poindexter, Robert McFarlane, and Richard Levine, all of whom, like North, are veterans of Reagan’s national security team.
Acknowledging that China presents “a whole bunch” of threats, North ticked off several of the biggest, beginning with the country’s leader, President Xi Jinping, who also heads the Chinese Communist Party.
“Xi Jinping is probably very happy that Biden is preparing to move into the White House,” North said, noting further that his and the Chinese Poliburo’s objective is global domination.
“The [People’s Republic of China] now has more naval combatants than the U.S. Navy. The theft of intellectual property threatens our national security — that’s how they got the navy they’ve got today,” North said.
He also said China facilitates the export of “tons of illicit drugs” around the world, and that Beijing “has set up a global string of pearls” — assets in the form of ports and other infrastructure including military bases — that began in the 1980s.
“The false territorial claims over open seas and the erection of man-made military bastions” in the South China Sea “provide visual proof” of Xi’s determination to dominate the world.
“But even more menacing is the PRC’s overt and covert actions to thwart UN sanctions against” Iran, which he said “basically ensures that the ayatollahs “are gonna obtain nuclear weapons and the means of delivering them,” North, a Vietnam War vet and former radio talk show host, added.
North also claimed there is evidence that the Chinese Communist Party was complicit “in the worldwide spread of COVID-19,” while also knocking Beijing for banning religious freedom and other individual liberties.
“And here at home” in the U.S., China is waging a “campaign of disinformation” via campus-based “Confucius Institutes.”
North said the book’s authors made 70 recommendations for the administration.
“What Jake oughta being doing is talking to these guys instead of the Communist Chinese,” North added.
