In a now-deleted tweet, an otherwise obscure liberal writer seemingly has joined the chorus of those who want to target supporters of President Donald Trump for some kind of retaliation.
New York Magazine senior art critic Jerry Saltz took to Twitter on Saturday to provide this form of political craftsmanship that appears to demonstrate more Trump Derangement Syndrome even after the corporate media anointed Joe Biden as the next president.
“Republicanism is no longer a political problem; Republicanism is a social problem. It must be treated in the same way coronavirus is treated: it has to be isolated and snuffed-out by repressing it in about 70% of the general population,” Saltz wrote, without evidence, as the media likes to say.
On Red State, in what might be an overstatement, a writer characterized this proposal as sounding “a lot like genocide.”
Parenthetically, a significant divergence exists between conventional Republicanism and the American First, populist MAGA movement embodied by Trump and the millions who voted for him in 2016 and 2020.
That aside, for those who cherish free speech, always-on-alert conservative actor James Wood made a screenshot of the Jerry Saltz tweet before it disappeared, adding the caption “nut job.”

The diatribe from Saltz, a writer who is a Pulitzer Prize winner of all things, prompted some major pushback on the social media platform. Here is just a sample, which included a partial walk-back:
The “ism” not the people, Tess.

The “ism” IS the people, Jerry.

That's the sort of talk that people use when they have a large army at their backs…..Do you Jerry?
— FenBeagle (@Fenbeagle) November 21, 2020
"Republicanism needs to be snuffed-out"
Nothing chilling at all about that sentiment coming from a best-selling Pulitzer Prize winner.

"Jerry Saltz is no longer a political problem; Jerry Saltz is a social problem. He must be treated in the same way coronavirus is treated: it has to be isolated and snuffed-out."
Just replaced Republicanism with Jerry Saltz. Does it look the same or different? Same, right?

It's always the most cowardly, pathetic men that talk tough like that. Bring it on Jerry. You wouldn't last two minutes in the real world.

Art critic from New York plays the tough guy. Hilarious.

If it needs to be repressed in 70% of the population, and given Trump’s very high approval rating among Republicans, it would seem he did in fact win the election.

That's the number one play in the liberal handbook… accuse others of the things you are blatantly doing yourself.
— Jk5050 (@Jk50502) November 22, 2020
At least that whacko got the numbers right: 70% of the population being Republican sounds about right when counting the legal votes only.

You’re projecting your mental illness & brainwash onto the part of the country that is pro-family, pro-God, pro-America & pro-humanity.
Seek help.

“Those who think different from us must be repressed” sounds like a healthy ideology for a free society.
— Kevin (@Kevin230346) November 21, 2020
I see. And how will you go about snuffing out this particular “ism?” Are you planning to eradicate an ideology through terror, forced re-education, a withdrawal of civil liberties, or all of the above? 🤨
— Tsarina Annette the Mediocre (@NettieMarieJ) November 21, 2020
I’m going to guess by looking at your profile picture that you won’t be taking on the task of using force to get this done.
— Shawn Foxall 🇺🇸 (@ShawnFoxall) November 22, 2020
It’s pretty amusing for them to call conservatives fascists while working to censor us and make lists of conservatives they want to “black-ball” or punish some other way for the crime of being a Republican.
— amy carpenter (@amycarpenter49) November 22, 2020
That is totalitarianism. The silencing of political opponents. It makes me sad that our nation has come to the point of persecution based on politics…something we have fought against in other countries who oppressed their citizens. Very sad indeed.
— Julianne Anderson (@etsyjulianne) November 22, 2020
Hi Jerry, I once said I quite admired Margaret Thatcher and thought George H Bush was an underrated President. Can you tell me what time you’re going to have me picked up for Gulag re-education. Just need to know so can feed the cats before I go. Ta Xx💋

you dislike republicanism? why do you want the us to have a monarch?

Saltz is not the only leftist who is calling for some type of un-American payback over political disagreements.
A California-based member of the Democratic National Committee, in the hierarchy of the party of tolerance, has called for the authoritarian “deprogramming” of 75 million Trump supporters in a perhaps unhinged social media rant about conspiracy theories and accusations of COVID denial.

Not to be outdone, well-known author Joyce Carol Oates has odiously compared Trump supporters who are supposedly indifferent to the coronavirus pandemic to the German citizens who stood idly by during the Holocaust.
