Professor compares Trump supporters to Germans who ‘ignored and profited from the Holocaust’

An elitist Berkeley University visiting professor who’s reportedly worth millions thanks to the novels she’s written claims that Trump supporters who haven’t allowed the coronavirus pandemic to affect their lives are no different than the German citizens who stood idly by as Adolf Hitler slaughtered millions of Jews.

Joyce Carol Oates, an author who currently teaches short fiction at the University of California, Berkeley, shared this offensive view in a tweet posted Thursday.

View the tweet below, and take note of the bizarre way in which she censored the inner letters of the name Trump like one might censor a curse word:

She claimed that to Trump supporters, “the pandemic is like the Holocaust to many Germans: they knew what was happening but adjusted to living with it in indifference or, in some cases, profiting from it.”

She added that they only care about the virus “if affected personally.”

Yet the exact same accusation could easily be lobbed her way. As an example, consider the dismissive tweet she posted during the lockdown riots in May:

To her, the fact that big-box retailers worth billions of dollars were still open and providing services proved that there was no need to protest lockdowns.

But what about the countless small businesses that were forced to close during the crisis? Better yet, what about the extraordinarily large number of businesses that wound up never reopening because they were completely wiped out?

“Yelp Inc., the online reviewer, has data showing more than 80,000 permanently shuttered from March 1 to July 25. About 60,000 were local businesses, or firms with fewer than five locations,” Bloomberg reported in August.

“About 800 small businesses did indeed file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy from mid-February to July 31, according to the American Bankruptcy Institute, and the trade group expects the 2020 total could be up 36% from last year.”

And no, it’s not President Donald Trump’s fault, as evidenced by the fact that plenty of business owners in the neighboring country of Canada also lost everything because of the draconian coronavirus lockdowns, including the gentleman below:

“I lost everything. I lost my house. But it’s not going to be uncommon. It’s just going to be standard right now,” the gentleman said.

Indeed, it’s become standard fare in every country where mostly left-wing political figures sought (and are continuing to seek) to stymie the coronavirus’s spread by locking down their citizens.

But does any of this matter to Oates, a woman who according to is worth an estimated $19 million and thus has no need to worry about not being able to pay her bills?

It seems not.

“[H]ow trivial!” she condescendingly tweeted in May.

She must feel the same way about the Holocaust, given her decision this week to compare the slaughter of millions of Jews to a viral pandemic that boasts a survival rate of 99 percent for most Americans and 94.6 percent for those over the age of 70.

Naturally, her decision provoked scathing rebukes.

“You are better than this,” the latter Twitter user wrote.

Is she, though? Two months before the 2016 presidential election, she reportedly claimed that the president’s supporters would cheer if then-Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton was murdered.

Four years later, people who are as left-wing politically as her are celebrating President Donald Trump’s oldest son, Donald Trump Jr., contracting the coronavirus:

Meanwhile, when far-left CNN host Chris Cuomo contracted the virus last spring, Trump-voting conservatives rushed to wish him well:

The world isn’t a binary place, as Oates seems to think. It’s complicated and nuanced.

But if the world must absolutely be viewed in a binary faction, with one side representing all that is good (love, tolerance, kindness, empathy, compassion), and the other side representing all that is bad (hatred, apathy, intolerance, bigotry), then it seems clear which side Oates has aligned herself with …
