Gov Cuomo reportedly dodged over a dozen WH meetings on COVID vaccines, then trashes it

Trash-talking New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who’s been extremely critical of President Donald Trump’s vaccine plans, has secretly been refusing to meet with the Trump administration to actually discuss those very plans, according to reports.

Reporting by the New York Post revealed this week that the loudmouth governor has skipped “more than a dozen White House meetings” concerning the vaccine, including one with Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar.

“Cuomo skipped out on 17 consecutive governor calls with the White House coronavirus task force designed to brief state leaders on the vaccine development and rollout process, while calling them ‘circuses’ and ‘a joke’ in a recent interview,” the Post reported Wednesday, citing sources within the White House.

“Cuomo has claimed a vaccine would need to undergo a second round of checks in New York because efforts to fast-track it had been ‘politicized’ and suggested it was ‘bad news’ that the treatment wasn’t being distributed under an administration led President-elect Joe Biden, whom Cuomo has described as a friend.”

During a phone interview Monday with the Post, Cuomo complained of all of the “unknowns” of the Trump administration’s vaccine plans.

“We’ve asked over 35 questions that would help us understand the delineation of federal and state responsibility. There are many unknowns,” he said.

“What we do know so far is that the federal government’s plan doesn’t take into account the need for states to be able to go beyond the existing infrastructure and that is why we are calling, even repeatedly calling, the federal government to put forward the funding and have the type of visionary approach that recognizes that you can’t just use the existing flu vaccine infrastructure.”

The problem is he’s apparently made no attempt to relay these concerns to the administration, preferring instead to bloviate publicly — perhaps for attention?

Cuomo is, after all, the same governor who spent time during a pandemic writing a self-congratulatory book on his otherwise poor coronavirus response:

Now flash-back to Oct. 15th, when Cuomo and Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, a Republican, published a joint public letter to the president asking for more details on his vaccine plan.

According to the Post, the president promptly responded by ordering Azar to reach out to both men and schedule a meeting. But when Azar did exactly that, Cuomo refused to meet.

“According to two sources, Alexander Cochran, Cuomo’s special counsel, rejected the Oct. 21 invitation to meet the following day, saying they would not entertain a meeting with the federal government until all of their questions were answered in writing,” the Post reported.

“Republican Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, who leads the National Governors Association with Cuomo, did accept the offer and spoke to Azar that day, the sources said.”

A couple of days later, Azar obediently complied with Cuomo’s demand and released a written letter containing the answers to all of his questions.

How did the governor thank him? By trashing him.

“Azar has proven himself to be equal parts political and incompetent, which is why when Trump refused to meet with the NGA leaders, they made a simple request to answer their questions in writing — a reasonable ask after Trump reneged on his commitment to cover 25 percent of New York’s FEMA reimbursement for COVID,” Cuomo’s spokesperson said Wednesday.

“We received a letter back but the response left unanswered questions and the fact remains there are many unknowns and flaws with the federal government’s plan, and the administration of a safe and effective vaccine is too important to let Trump-style politics get in the way.”

As previously reported, Cuomo also skipped 17 governor calls about the vaccine. The meetings reportedly occurred “around the same time he published his self-congratulatory book ‘American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic.'”

When questioned during a radio interview last week about why he’d skipped these meetings, Cuomo compared them to circus performances.

“I’ve also missed circuses. I don’t go to a lot of circuses. Between the White House conference call and a circus, I think a circus would teach me more about COVID. I was on the last call. It’s a joke,” he said.

Fact-check: FALSE.

“Many of the calls have been really, really substantive discussions often led by the vice president or Secretary Azar. We’ve found them to be extremely helpful,” a senior staff member of an unnamed GOP governor said to the Post.

“It’s really remarkable for him to say they’re useless and to have made the criticisms he did about distribution when he has not bothered to be on these calls.”

Remarkable but certainly not surprising. This sort of slimy, sleazy behavior appears to be a trademark of the Cuomo family. From threatening to beat people up, to chastising people for not following coronavirus lockdown orders that they themselves refuse to abide by.  Members of the family have repeatedly displayed a nasty superiority complex.

In their eyes, they’re better than everybody else and thus deserve special treatment and privileges. In that regard, they’re not too different from other Democrats:
