President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign won a major court victory Thursday after filing suit against election officials after GOP poll watchers were barred from verifying mail-in and absentee ballots.
“We plan on entering that building right now and legally observing the voting process. If there is one illegal vote that is cast, it takes away from the great men and women of Pennsylvania who came out to vote legally,” former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, speaking on behalf of the Trump campaign, told reporters Thursday morning after the order was issued.
She said a “team of 15 people” will be allowed in to begin observing again after they were barred on Wednesday.
In her press conference, Bondi said GOP ballot observers were kept up to 100 feet away from where votes were being counted, adding that someone wearing a badge who did not appear to be a sworn peace officer kept them at bay.
Bondi also noted that the special balloting instructions pre-election granting voters a three-day extension beyond Election Day on Tuesday violated state law because neither the Pennsylvania secretary of state’s office nor the state Supreme Court have the authority to change it.
Only the state legislature, under Article II of the U.S. Constitution, can do so, she argued.
Corey Lewandowski, who initially ran President Trump’s 2016 campaign, told reporters, “Democracy dies in darkness,” a reference to the Washington Post’s motto.
“This is the opportunity to shed light on what’s going on inside this building,” he said. “Our observers here are going to be six feet behind every worker who’s counting these votes,” he added, in compliance with COVID-19 social distancing mandates.
“This is a win for every person who’s cast a legal ballot in the state of Pennsylvania. This is a win,” he noted further.
Lewandowski predicted that Democrats would appeal the court’s ruling, however. “They don’t want the American people to know what’s going on in here,” he said.
Added Bondi: “Whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican…you should be allowed to observe and know what’s happening with our voting process. That’s why this is so important for all parties involved.”
However, without an hour, one report stated that the Democrat-dominated state Supreme Court reversed the lower court’s ruling, inexplicably ruling to block GOP ballot observers again.

But in demonstrating how fluid the situation is, a follow-up tweet from FOX43 correspondent Chelsea Koerbler refuted that report, quoting a Pennsylvania Supreme Court spokesperson: “There is no filing in the Pa Supreme Court and the Court has NOT overruled any action by the Commonwealth Court. Again, the PA Supreme Court has NOT taken any actions on any Commonwealth Court case nor do they have any pending filings.”
In announcing the Trump campaign’s lawsuit Wednesday, presidential lawyer Rudy Giuliani alleged that blocking GOP observers aided and abetted “voter fraud,” which he said “is one of the biggest problems” in the current election cycle.
“But we’re not going to let them get away with it. They’re not going to steal this election,” he told reporters.
He then said the campaign would take its legal battles to other states and to federal courts if need be.
“We are going to continue the lawsuit here. We’re going to bring a second one. And then we’re going to bring a federal lawsuit. And we’re going to take a good look at whether we bring this nationally. We’re certainly going to bring it here (in Pennsylvania) and to Wisconsin. Quite possibly, we’ll do a national lawsuit and we’ll really expose the corruption of the Democrat Party,” he told reporters.
“This is beyond anything I’ve ever seen before! This comes when you think you have so much power and you own the media, that you can do anything you want,” he said after noting that Democrats have been in charge of Philadelphia for decades.
